A respected nonprofit leader, business operations professional, and wellness advocate, she combines more than two decades of experience in sales operations, business administration, revenue operations, marketing design, analytics, and strategic planning with a passion for empowering others through movement. A graduate of California State University, Northridge, she also earned a Marketing Design Certification from Loyola Marymount University, enabling her to create impactful marketing campaigns and educational materials that support both nonprofit outreach and community engagement. For the past seven years, Renee has led Healing Thru Rhythm with a mission to inspire healthier lifestyles by combining fitness, music, and culture. Drawing on more than 15 years of experience as a dance fitness instructor, she designs and leads dynamic programs featuring music and dance styles from around the world, with a special emphasis on Dancehall, Soca, and Afrobeats. Through themed monthly wellness events and community initiatives, she raises awareness of important health causes, including breast cancer, domestic violence, and dementia, while fostering physical, mental, and emotional well-being for women, men, seniors, and youth. Committed to expanding the organization's impact, Renee is currently pursuing certifications in grant writing and nonprofit management to further strengthen Healing Thru Rhythm's long-term growth and sustainability. Before founding Healing Thru Rhythm, Renee built a distinguished 17-year corporate career, earning recognition for her leadership, professionalism, and operational excellence, including the Sales Assistant of the Year Award and an additional performance excellence award. She is widely respected for her integrity, attention to detail, and ability to lead complex initiatives while building meaningful relationships across organizations. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Renee volunteers with Shakinah Glory Homes, supporting programs that empower teen mothers and strengthen families. She credits much of her entrepreneurial success to the example and encouragement of her husband, whose business leadership inspired her own journey of service, innovation, and community impact.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Renee

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to perseverance, a strong support system, and the example set by my husband, whose entrepreneurial journey has been a powerful source of inspiration. Watching him build and lead with determination gave me the confidence to pursue my own vision and establish Healing Thru Rhythm. His guidance, combined with my commitment to continuous learning, hard work, and serving others, has shaped my leadership journey and motivated me to create an organization that positively impacts the health and well-being of the communities we serve. I also volunteer with Shakinah Glory Homes, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting teen mothers.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve embraced is to remain steadfast in my purpose and trust the journey, even when challenges arise. I’ve learned that perseverance, resilience, and unwavering faith in my mission are essential to overcoming obstacles and achieving meaningful success. Staying committed to serving others while remaining true to my vision has been one of the greatest guiding principles throughout my career, continually grounding me and propelling me forward.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering any industry or pursuing their own business is to believe in yourself and take the leap. The journey will bring challenges, setbacks, and moments of uncertainty, but each experience will strengthen you both personally and professionally. Stay committed to your vision, remain open to learning, and refuse to give up on your goals. When you move forward with purpose and persistence, the rewards will always outweigh the obstacles.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges I face is securing consistent nonprofit grant funding while managing operational expenses such as studio rentals, program development, and event costs. At the same time, I see tremendous opportunities for growth through expanding our ambassador program, building strategic community partnerships, and bringing Healing Thru Rhythm to new cities and states. As more people recognize the importance of holistic wellness and community engagement, I believe there is significant potential to broaden our impact and serve even more individuals through the power of movement and culture.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that matter most to me are family, compassion, and serving others. Being a mother and helping raise my children has shaped the way I lead both personally and professionally, teaching me the importance of patience, empathy, and resilience. I have a genuine heart for helping people feel their best and live healthier lives, which is the driving force behind my work. I also believe in maintaining a strong balance between my career and my family, and I am grateful for the unwavering partnership and support of my husband as we build a meaningful life together.
