Her Story
About Renu
I've been in technology for over 30 years, having started my career as a programmer. Today, I run a team of strategic account managers in the insurance technology sector, working for a company that can be classified as insure tech. My work involves transforming each of our clients in the insurance industry, ensuring that the servicing we provide is of excellence. From an organizational perspective, my role focuses on both client satisfaction and revenue growth, with sales being very much a part of what I do. I love working with people, and leadership and mentoring other women is especially a big passion of mine. My biggest achievement has been leading teams from different cultural backgrounds and ethnicities, and seeing them shine in different areas and play leadership roles. I've tailored my career by continuously reinventing myself, challenging the status quo every few years by moving to different countries, different states, or taking up roles I've never done before.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Renu
01What do you attribute your success to?
Growing up, my father really inspired me and helped me. He pushed me to achieve a lot more from a very early age. I think I contribute a lot of the ambitious streak coming from him. It might sound cliche, but his influence has been fundamental to my success.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I received was to continuously reinvent yourself and to always challenge the status quo. I've tailored my career around this principle. I'm one of those people that every four years, I would pull the carpet literally under my own feet and ask myself, okay, how do I challenge myself? What do I do next? Whether it's moving to a different country, moving to a different state, or taking up a role that I have never done before, the key is to not sit on your laurels and to keep thinking ahead. That's how I've implemented that advice - by reinventing myself every few years.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Just be fearless and be bold. Life is short.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I think the biggest challenge and opportunity in the field right now is that there's a lot of buzz around AI. It's both a combination of challenge and opportunity. We need to make sure that we are servicing our clients through the right use and channeling it in the right ways and fashion. That is very important because AI is an opportunity and a challenge, both. Additionally, the new talent that we are hiring and folks who pass out from college are learning in a different environment with new things. Even upskilling the existing workforce is critical. So the whole workforce planning and management for a company to grow plays a big part in the entire challenge and opportunity field as well.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I think integrity is really at the top. I work with people, and I choose trust and honesty and dependability over anything else. I believe that talent and everything else can be refreshed, but integrity is the core - it's the most critical factor.
