Her Story
About Rosaura
I started my career path after becoming a young mother at a young age and not graduating high school initially. I had to go through my GED to get back on track, then went to college and earned my associate's degree along with my corporate paralegal certification. I worked with my former boss at his private firm for 5 years before we moved over to Kennedy Wilson in 2011, where he had been working for 23 years prior. He made real estate fun and showed me it's a never-ending learning field. The laws do change, but not as drastically as other fields. What inspires me and keeps me going is that it's international, so I continue learning. I've been in my current position as a corporate paralegal for approximately 20 years, maintaining all corporate entities that own our vast amount of assets and running all closings and sales of assets worldwide.

Ten minutes with Rosaura
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to perseverance and the fact that today's society gives us a little bit more of an open door, where women can ask for more instead of just standing behind the power makers. It's about not accepting a secondary role and being willing to step forward and advocate for yourself in ways that previous generations couldn't as easily.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I ever received was to say yes. Because if you don't say yes, you don't know what those possibilities may be. It's about being open to opportunities and not closing doors before you even know what's on the other side.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't give up. Find a really good mentor, man or woman, it doesn't matter, that will listen to you and give you everything, tell you everything that you need to know, whether it's wrong or not. Don't take it personal, because it's just going to make you stronger and build your career. Having someone who will be honest with you and guide you through the challenges is essential to growing in this field.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge for me is not being able to climb any further, because now I have nowhere to go. I am at the top there for my department. There are not very many companies out there that value the paralegal field, because even salaries are not up to par. It's about hitting a ceiling where there's limited room for advancement and the profession itself isn't always valued or compensated appropriately.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Respect and work-life boundaries are the most important values to me. I think those are the key ones that make things work, both professionally and personally. Having mutual respect and maintaining clear boundaries between work and personal time are essential for a healthy, sustainable career and life.
