Her Story

About Ruby

Ruby Lupien is the founder of GemPeak Financial, an Idaho-based firm she established to provide accounting support, business plan development, and financial guidance for startups and established small businesses. Her work is grounded in financial analysis, with a focus on connecting a company’s financial information with its operations, industry and market conditions, risks, and business goals.

Ruby’s background spans insurance, commercial banking, and business operations. As a commercial credit analyst, she evaluated established middle-market companies with annual revenues ranging from $10 million to $500 million. Her combined experience strengthened her ability to review financial performance, assess risk, understand industry and market factors, and identify the information decision-makers need to evaluate a business. Today, she brings that analytical perspective to small businesses that need clear financial information for planning, funding requests, and operational decisions.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in business with a concentration in finance and accounting from Boise State University. Her additional training includes financial analysis and modeling through Wall Street Prep in conjunction with the university, commercial credit analysis through Moody’s Analytics for Bankers, and ongoing Financial Planning & Analysis Professional training through the Corporate Finance Institute. She is an associate member of the Construction Financial Management Association and serves on the Board of Directors of Global Lounge.

Originally from Colombia, Ruby arrived in the United States in 2008 and gained firsthand perspective on the challenges small business owners face while supporting a family-owned insurance business behind the scenes. That experience, combined with navigating language barriers herself, shaped her practical approach to making financial information clear, relevant, and accessible for business owners in English and Spanish.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Ruby

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to mindset and refusing to let others define my limits. Growing up in Colombia, I was told higher education and business ownership were not realistic for me. After arriving in the United States in 2008, I chose to keep learning and creating opportunities despite language barriers and limited resources. Challenges shape us, but we still have a role in designing our own lives.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Do the research and plan ahead, but reassess your goals along the way. I believe in having a Plan B, C, and D, and in being willing to start over when necessary. Both starting a business and starting over are acts of bravery. They require facing the unknown, taking meaningful risks, and learning how to grow after setbacks.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Believe in yourself, but build that confidence through knowledge, preparation, and experience. It is normal to be afraid when there are unknowns, especially in finance or business ownership. Ask questions, keep learning, and do not let the feeling of not being ready stop you from taking the next step. Use both research and your judgment.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Many small business owners have accounting records but do not always have the time, systems, or guidance to turn that information into useful decisions. The opportunity is to make financial analysis more accessible and practical, connecting financial performance with operations, industry conditions, risks, and future plans. Clear financial information can give owners a stronger basis for planning and decision-making.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity, empathy, accountability, and continuous learning are central to both my work and personal life. I believe people deserve honest communication, clear expectations, and respect, especially when they are making important decisions for their families or businesses. I also value community and education. Through my work, board service, and local involvement, I want my efforts to contribute to opportunities for others.
