About Ruth
Ruth Rivera is the founding attorney of Ruth Rivera Law, a Houston-based personal injury law firm dedicated to representing individuals who have suffered life-changing injuries due to negligence. Her practice focuses on personal injury litigation, including motor vehicle accidents, medical malpractice, workplace injuries, and insurance disputes. Since launching her firm in 2024, Ruth has built a growing practice, leading a team of professionals while overseeing every aspect of litigation, business operations, client advocacy, and firm development. Her commitment to justice is deeply personal, inspired by witnessing her mother's experience with medical negligence and language barriers as a young child—a defining moment that shaped her lifelong mission to advocate for those whose voices often go unheard.
Before establishing her own practice, Ruth developed a strong foundation in complex litigation and insurance law. After graduating cum laude from the University of Houston Law Center in 2018, she began her legal career handling insurance coverage and civil litigation at Akerman LLP before transitioning to plaintiff-side personal injury litigation with Sorrels Law and the Buzbee Law Firm. Working alongside respected trial attorneys, she gained extensive experience securing significant recoveries for injured clients while mastering every stage of complex litigation. Her background on both the defense and plaintiff sides provides her with a strategic perspective that benefits clients navigating high-stakes legal disputes.
Beyond the courtroom, Ruth is passionate about mentorship, community service, and expanding opportunities for future legal professionals. A bilingual attorney fluent in English and Spanish, she volunteers her time mentoring first-generation students, reviewing résumés, hosting job shadowing opportunities, and supporting aspiring attorneys through professional organizations and mentorship programs. She believes that building strong relationships and developing business acumen are essential to long-term success, particularly for women entering the legal profession. Through her client-centered approach, entrepreneurial leadership, and unwavering commitment to advocacy, Ruth continues to make a meaningful impact by helping clients rebuild their lives after devastating injuries while growing a firm grounded in compassion, excellence, and service.

Ten minutes with Ruth
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the mentorship and training I received from experienced attorneys, along with persistence, hard work, and a strong commitment to serving my clients. My mother's experience with medical malpractice inspired me to pursue a career where I could advocate for others and make a meaningful difference. I have also dedicated myself to building strong professional relationships and growing my practice through consistent business development. Above all, I believe my success has been guided by God's blessing, for which I am deeply grateful.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the legal profession is to learn how to develop business and build strong client relationships. The ability to bring in business makes you a valuable asset to any organization and gives you the flexibility to start your own firm if that's the path you choose. While women may still face higher expectations and additional barriers, developing this skill provides you with a powerful bargaining tool and greater control over your career.
