Her Interview

Ten minutes with Samantha

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to a strong sense of accountability, unwavering attention to detail, and a genuine commitment to serving others. Throughout my career in payroll and workforce operations, I have learned that success is not measured solely by metrics, accuracy rates, or operational outcomes. Behind every paycheck is a person, a family, and a promise that every detail has been handled with precision, care, and integrity.

That responsibility has shaped both my professional philosophy and leadership approach. It has driven me to build trust, lead with transparency, and consistently deliver results in environments where accuracy and compliance are critical. Equally important, it has reinforced the value of investing in people, whether supporting employees, developing future leaders, or building high-performing teams. I believe lasting success comes from combining operational excellence with genuine human connection, and that principle continues to guide me in every stage of my career.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have ever received was to stop focusing on whether I met every qualification and start focusing on whether I was capable of learning what I didn't yet know.

What's the phrase? "Men apply for a job when they meet about 60% of the qualifications, while women tend to apply only if they meet 100% of them."

Early in my career, I often felt I needed to have all the answers before taking on a new challenge. Over time, I learned that growth happens when you are willing to step outside your comfort zone and trust your ability to adapt, learn, and lead through uncertainty. Some of the most rewarding opportunities in my career came from saying "yes" to challenges that initially felt bigger than my experience.

That advice taught me to embrace continuous learning, seek out complexity rather than avoid it, and view every new responsibility as an opportunity for growth. It has shaped my leadership style as well. I encourage my teams to focus less on perfection and more on progress, curiosity, and the confidence to tackle challenges they may not have faced before.

Looking back, I have found that careers are rarely built by waiting until you feel completely ready. They are built by having the courage to take the next step and trusting yourself to grow into it. Shoot your shot!

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I encourage young women entering the payroll profession to stay curious, remain adaptable, and never stop learning. Payroll is far more than processing numbers or pushing a button, it sits at the intersection of people, compliance, technology, finance, and business strategy. The most successful professionals are those who embrace growth, seek to understand the broader business, and are willing to take on new challenges, even when they feel outside their comfort zone.

I would also encourage women to have confidence in their abilities and not wait until they feel perfectly qualified before pursuing new opportunities. Some of the greatest career growth comes from stepping into roles that stretch your skills and challenge you to learn.

Payroll offers remarkable stability and long-term career potential because every organization depends on it. For those who are committed to accuracy, integrity, and professional development, it can provide not only a rewarding career, but also the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on employees, organizations, and the future of work. Most importantly, remember that your voice, perspective, and leadership matter. Don't be afraid to take up space, advocate for yourself, and pursue the opportunities that align with your goals.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges facing the global payroll and Employer of Record (EOR) industry is the increasing complexity of managing a distributed workforce. Organizations are hiring talent across borders at an unprecedented pace, creating challenges related to compliance, payroll accuracy, data security, regulatory change, and employee experience. Navigating these complexities requires a combination of local expertise, scalable processes, and technology that can adapt to an evolving global landscape.

Another challenge is talent development within the profession itself. Payroll remains one of the most critical functions in any organization, yet it is often overlooked as a career path. Many professionals discover payroll by chance rather than pursuing it intentionally, which can make attracting and developing the next generation of payroll leaders more difficult.

At the same time, these challenges present tremendous opportunities. The rise of remote work, global hiring, and international employment models has elevated payroll from a traditionally administrative function to a strategic business partner. Organizations increasingly recognize that payroll professionals play a vital role in workforce planning, compliance management, employee experience, and business growth.

Advancements in automation, artificial intelligence, and global employment technology are also creating exciting opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce risk, and allow payroll teams to focus on more strategic initiatives. As awareness of the profession continues to grow, I believe we will see greater recognition of payroll as a dynamic and rewarding career that offers both stability and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on organizations and employees around the world.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that guide me most, both professionally and personally, are integrity, accountability, and a genuine commitment to supporting others. I believe trust is earned through consistency, transparency, and doing the right thing even when no one is watching. Whether I'm leading a global team or navigating challenges in my personal life, I strive to approach every situation with honesty, reliability, and respect.

Accountability is equally important to me. I believe in taking ownership of outcomes, learning from mistakes, and maintaining high standards for myself and those I lead. In a profession like payroll, where accuracy and trust are paramount, accountability is not just a value, it is a responsibility.

Mentorship and investing in people are also central to who I am as a leader. Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to have had a few managers who believed in my potential, challenged me to grow, and opened doors to new opportunities. Their support had a profound impact on my development, and I am passionate about paying that forward by helping others build confidence, develop their skills, and reach their goals.

Ultimately, I believe creating environments where individuals feel supported, valued, and empowered to grow is one of the most meaningful aspects of both my career and personal life.
