About Severina
Severina Ware serves as Director of Volunteer Services at the National Breast Cancer Foundation in Dallas, Texas. She has spent the last 14 to 15 years building her career in nonprofit management leadership, with a particular passion for volunteer management and engagement. Ware earned her undergraduate degree from UNT in nonprofit management and community resources along with a certificate in volunteer management, and she later completed a master's degree. She holds the CVA credential as a Certified Volunteer Administrator through CCVA and maintains active membership in ALIVE, the Association of Leaders in Volunteer Engagement. In her role, Ware focuses on relationship building, connecting volunteers with meaningful opportunities, and supporting staff through skilled volunteer placements. She attributes her professional success to her executive coach Sharon Holly, participation in a cohort for Black women in nonprofit leadership that helped address imposter syndrome, and the motivation provided by her daughter. Ware values transparency and communication in both her professional and personal life, and she advises young women entering the field to remain open to new experiences, expand their networks, and seek advice from experienced professionals without delay on certifications or salary negotiations.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my executive coach Sharon Holly who helped put things into perspective, the cohort for Black women in nonprofit leadership that poured into me and helped with imposter syndrome, and my daughter who motivates me and sees me making a difference.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Be open to new experiences, expanding your network, connecting with people, and any and every opportunity. Be open to advice and nudges from those in the field so you don't wait as long on things like certifications or negotiating salary.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Huge transparency and communication.
