About Sheena
Sheena West, MBA, CRCR, CHFP serves as Associate Director of Revenue Cycle at BetterHealth, a Planned Parenthood Partnership, where she leads revenue cycle operations and supports healthcare organizations across the United States. She manages a team of 13 professionals across six states and specializes in helping clients achieve key performance metrics, improve reimbursement outcomes, and optimize relationships with insurance partners through effective revenue cycle strategies.
With more than 20 years of experience in healthcare revenue cycle management, West has developed extensive expertise in revenue integrity, billing operations, process improvement, and financial performance optimization. She began her career working at the front desk of a physical therapy office, gaining firsthand experience in patient services and healthcare administration before advancing into leadership roles. Prior to joining BetterHealth in January 2023, she spent nearly a decade as Revenue Integrity Manager for a local hospital system, where she oversaw charge capture processes, billing workflows, and initiatives designed to improve operational efficiency and reduce revenue leakage.
West earned her Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration and Master of Business Administration from ECPI University, completing both programs online while balancing the responsibilities of raising her family. She holds the Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR) credential and Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP) designation through the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA). She credits her professional success to resilience, determination, and a commitment to continuous growth. 01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to resilience, determination, and the drive to overcome challenges. Throughout my career, I have been motivated by the belief that I could achieve my goals, even when faced with doubt or obstacles. The desire to prove to myself and others that I was capable pushed me to continue learning, growing, and pursuing opportunities for advancement. My perseverance and commitment to excellence have helped me navigate change, build confidence, and achieve success in my professional journey.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would encourage young women entering healthcare to be patient with themselves and recognize that expertise is built over time. You are not expected to learn everything overnight, so avoid putting unnecessary pressure on yourself. Healthcare, especially the insurance and revenue cycle fields, is constantly evolving, and the ability to adapt is essential. Stay consistent, remain curious, continue learning, and embrace change as an opportunity for growth. A commitment to lifelong learning and perseverance will help you build a successful and rewarding career.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are empathy and open-mindedness. I believe in taking the time to understand others’ perspectives, listening with compassion, and creating an environment where people feel respected and valued. These values guide how I lead my team, collaborate with others, and approach challenges. By remaining open to different ideas and experiences, I am able to continue learning, build stronger relationships, and support those around me in meaningful ways.
