Her Story

About Shweta

I'm a software engineer with close to 20 years of IT experience across different areas and clients. For the past 4 years, I've been consulting in the utility industry as a technical delivery manager, leading digital transformation initiatives. I specialize in RPA (robotic process automation) and AI-driven solutions, including agentic AI and machine learning. My work focuses on helping people save hours on mundane jobs so they can use their intelligent brains for more creative work. This curiosity-driven approach to helping the community through technology solutions is what inspired me to get into this field. My team and I have built over 40 automations that are worth millions of dollars in benefits from the hours we're saving. The client has called me the 'unicorn' of the team, and based on our performance, my team has grown from just me to 15 people. My openness, curiosity to learn new things, dedication, and disciplined approach have helped me keep up with current technological developments. I believe in acting like a naive person so I'm always open to learning, because there's no age to learn or unlearn something. I'm also an active volunteer with the Charlotte Hindu Center, a non-profit organization for community development in my local city, where I help organize events and serve as a community helper.

Ten minutes with Shweta

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my openness, my curiosity to learn new things, and my dedication and disciplined approach. These qualities have helped me throughout my journey to keep up with current technological developments and stay updated with new things coming up. I always act like a naive person so that I'm open to learning new things, because there's no age to learn something or unlearn. This ongoing learning and curiosity have helped me get to where I am today. I believe in never stopping learning and maintaining the right attitude, because the right attitude takes you to the right place.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've received is to always prioritize your activities and balance everything out. Never be focused on just one thing and let it affect other things. Being a mom of two beautiful girls, I had my phase when they were young. Of course, my career was important, but their young age wouldn't come back. I had to prioritize that phase in life, and my career took a little bit of a backstep at that moment. The moments I spent with my young girls are something I'm very grateful about. So always prioritize your tasks and activities, and balance it out. Divide your day into activities that are actually important - not just materialistic things, but real goals, real family values, and real life stuff.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this field is to prioritize your things and never neglect yourself. Of course, along with family responsibilities, work responsibilities, and community responsibilities, you have to focus on yourself also, because a happy mom and happy woman makes everyone happier. A tired person cannot make others happy. Your battery would go down. So take care of yourself while balancing all your responsibilities.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge in my field is that day-to-day technology is changing all the time, so it's always challenging to keep up with it. But that's where you have to be curious to learn new things. You cannot stop learning. The right attitude takes you to the right place.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

For my personal life, I feel we all owe something to the community. We're all here to help each other, so I always believe that whenever you get a chance to serve somebody, to help somebody with your capacity - whether it's strength, money, knowledge, or anything - you should do it. That's the way the community progresses. Your individual progress won't help the community, so you should progress along with others. You should take your people with you to make it more successful. If everybody's happy around you, that will make you happy. Otherwise, alone, you won't be able to do anything. So my goal is always to help and find opportunities to help the community.
