Ten minutes with Sonya

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to old-fashioned hard work and the strong foundation my parents provided. My father consistently led by example, encouraging an entrepreneurial mindset while instilling the values of discipline, resilience, perseverance, and initiative. My mother, a retired healthcare practitioner, demonstrated the importance of compassion, professionalism, integrity, and serving others with excellence.

I am also deeply grateful for my husband's unwavering support and encouragement. His belief in me gave me the confidence to take the leap and start my business, and his continued support has been instrumental throughout my entrepreneurial journey.

Together, these influences taught me that success is earned through preparation, dedication, and a commitment to making a positive impact. Those lessons continue to guide my leadership style, my business, and my passion for helping organizations build exceptional teams while empowering individuals to achieve meaningful and lasting career success.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received was to meet people where they are and strive to be someone others genuinely want to work with. Success isn't defined solely by technical skills or results; it's also built on adaptability, emotional intelligence, and the ability to build authentic, respectful relationships. When people trust you, value your character, and enjoy working with you, collaboration becomes more effective, opportunities naturally follow, and lasting professional relationships are created.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to build your network early and intentionally. Join professional associations and women's organizations that provide mentorship, support, and opportunities for growth. Surrounding yourself with a strong community not only opens doors but also builds confidence, broadens your perspective, and strengthens your resilience.

Stay curious, continue learning, speak confidently about the value you bring, and consistently show up as someone who is reliable, collaborative, and professional. Your reputation and the relationships you build will often have as much impact on your long-term success as your skills and experience.

Finally, never forget the importance of giving back. I firmly believe in the law of reciprocity—when you invest your time, knowledge, and encouragement in others without expecting anything in return, those acts often come back to you in meaningful ways. As you grow in your career, reach back, mentor someone else, and help create opportunities for the next generation of women leaders.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in talent acquisition and human capital is overcoming career bias, particularly the barriers and assumptions women continue to face in traditionally male-dominated industries. These biases can be subtle, often showing up as being underestimated, having to work harder to establish credibility, or encountering fewer opportunities for advancement.

At the same time, I see this as one of our greatest opportunities. Organizations are increasingly recognizing that diverse perspectives drive better decision-making, stronger innovation, and improved business outcomes. As leaders, we have a responsibility to challenge outdated assumptions, advocate for equitable opportunities, and foster workplace cultures where talent, character, and performance—not gender—define success. By doing so, we not only create stronger organizations but also inspire the next generation of women to lead with confidence and authenticity.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that guide both my work and personal life are faith, integrity, compassion, and balance. I prioritize prayer, meditation, self-care, and maintaining healthy boundaries because they help me stay grounded, focused, and intentional in how I show up each day. I believe that taking care of yourself is not a luxury—it's essential to leading effectively and serving others well.

These values influence every aspect of my life, from the way I lead my business and build relationships to how I support clients, mentor others, and make decisions. When you lead with purpose, protect your peace, and treat people with respect and authenticity, success becomes not just something you achieve but something you sustain.
