Not being afraid of trying new things. Every job I ever got, I would say, I created for myself... One person's path doesn't have to be your path... we have the ability to shape our future.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Dont be affraid to admit mistakes
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Map your answers to your own experiences when on an interview, know your why. Don't just say "oh I've got tons of experience doing that!" Actually say where and when you gained that experience. Map our answers to your resume and use real world examples. Interviewers love that. Also, don't be afraid to find a mentor and meet regularly with them. The Municipal Clerk and local government professions are incredibly tight knit. Everyone knows someone. Some know everyone. You want to be that person. Network every opportunity you can.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Challenges Facing Young Women
One of the biggest challenges facing young women considering municipal government is that many simply don't know the opportunities exist. Local government isn't often presented as an exciting career path, yet it offers meaningful work, leadership opportunities, and the chance to improve people's lives every day. Once they enter the profession, young women may also find themselves navigating organizations where senior leadership has traditionally been male-dominated or where change happens more slowly than they would like. The key is remembering that influence isn't determined by age or title. It comes from competence, curiosity, integrity, and a willingness to serve. Municipal government needs a new generation of leaders who bring fresh ideas while honoring the public trust.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
At the heart of everything I do is a belief in the dignity and potential of every person. From that foundation flow the values that guide my life and work: integrity, transparency, kindness, creativity, courage, and a deep respect for diverse perspectives. I believe transparency builds trust, kindness is never a weakness, and courage is often found in the quiet decisions no one else sees. I value creativity because every meaningful solution begins with someone willing to imagine a better way. I value diversity of thought because the strongest organizations are built by people who respectfully challenge one another's ideas. Above all, I believe in leaving people, organizations, and communities better than I found them. Whether I'm teaching election law, mentoring emerging leaders, or writing about creativity, my mission is to help people lead with authenticity, serve with excellence, and make a meaningful difference where they are planted.
