With dual master’s degrees in Instructional Design and English and over a decade of experience, Susan began her career as an English teacher before transitioning into instructional design. Through Training Solutions Redefined, Susan manages the full training lifecycle—from needs analysis and strategic design to development, implementation, and evaluation. I attribute my success to perseverance, a steadfast commitment to pushing through challenges, learning from setbacks, and continuously striving for growth. This mindset has allowed me to overcome obstacles, adapt to change, and achieve my goals with resilience and purpose.

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is to never give up no matter the obstacles. Challenges are an inevitable part of any professional journey but persistence turns setbacks into opportunities for growth. By staying committed, seeking solutions, and maintaining a positive mindset, I’ve been able to overcome difficulties, sharpen my skills, and open doors to opportunities I might never have imagined. This determination has taught me that success is rarely instantaneous; it comes through patience, hard work, and the refusal to quit.

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would advise young women entering my industry to earn a degree in industrial design, actively build and maintain a strong professional network, and keep their portfolio current. A well-maintained portfolio not only showcases your skills but also demonstrates your growth, creativity, and dedication, making it easier to seize opportunities and stand out in a competitive field.

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is getting my business name out there. At the same time, this challenge presents a significant opportunity to build brand recognition, connect with the right audience, and establish a strong presence in the industry through strategic marketing, networking, and consistent quality work.

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The most important values to me in both my work and personal life are honesty and reliability. I believe in always being truthful and doing what I say I’m going to do, as these principles build trust, strengthen relationships, and create a foundation of integrity that guides every decision and action I take.
