About Tammy
Tammy Sardam is an Executive Assistant with more than 20 years of experience in the administrative field. She began her career as a receptionist, which sparked her interest, and advanced through roles as an administrative assistant before becoming an executive assistant. In her current position, Tammy handles key responsibilities such as board coordination, serving as the point of contact for the board of directors during quarterly meetings and creating presentations for those sessions. A meaningful aspect of her career has been mentoring other administrative assistants, helping them build confidence, strengthen their skills, and view themselves as strategic partners rather than solely in administrative roles. Tammy does not hold a college degree but has gained extensive knowledge through adult vocational training, professional development courses, and online courses to stay current with technologies such as AI. She maintains administrative certifications and has been involved for about five years with the Force Multiplier Academy, an executive assistant and strategic partner training program, as well as the International Association of Administrative Professionals, a nonprofit organization that provides training, conferences, and resources for administrative professionals. Tammy takes pride in her professional reputation and the impact she makes by seeing projects through to completion and serving as a reliable partner to the executives she supports.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a combination of discipline, purpose, and the people who have shaped my journey. I’ve always believed that excellence is built through consistency — showing up prepared, staying organized, and doing the work with intention. My career has been strengthened by leaders who trusted me, teams who collaborated with me, and mentors who invested in my growth.
I also credit my success to the values I was raised with: work hard, stay humble, and help others rise with you. Whether supporting executives, leading projects, or mentoring administrative professionals, I’ve learned that success is never a solo effort. It’s the result of strong relationships, continuous learning, and a commitment to serving others with integrity.
Most importantly, I stay grounded in purpose. I care deeply about the people I support and the impact I make behind the scenes. That sense of responsibility — paired with a genuine love for helping others succeed — is what continues to drive me forward.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is to lead from wherever you are. You don’t need a title to make an impact — you need initiative, consistency, and the willingness to take ownership. That mindset shaped the way I support executives, manage operations, and mentor other administrative professionals.
I was also taught to stay curious and keep learning. Every role, every challenge, and every project is an opportunity to grow your skill set and strengthen your value. That advice has guided me throughout my career, from supporting C‑suite leaders to leading professional development initiatives like Extreme Ownership.
And finally: build relationships. The strongest careers are built on trust, communication, and the way you show up for people. When you invest in others, they invest in you — and that’s where real success happens.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the administrative and operations field is to recognize the influence and impact of this profession. You are stepping into a role that shapes leaders, strengthens teams, and keeps organizations moving forward. Treat your work with intention, curiosity, and pride — it matters more than you realize.
Invest in your skills early. Learn the systems, understand the business, and build a reputation for reliability and precision. Proofread your work before submitting it; attention to detail is one of the most powerful tools you have. And remember, if you don’t know something, it’s okay to say you don’t know — what matters is being willing to learn it.
Use your community. Ask for advice from other administrative professionals and treat them as a resource. Reach out on LinkedIn, connect with admins in your organization, and be open to guidance from those who have walked the path before you. Some of the best growth comes from conversations with people who want to see you succeed.
Speak up and volunteer for opportunities that stretch you. Confidence grows through action, not perfection. When you lead with integrity, curiosity, and courage, you won’t just build a strong career — you’ll elevate everyone around you.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in the administrative and operations field is the rapid pace of change. Technology, AI tools, and evolving business systems are transforming how organizations operate, and administrative professionals are expected to adapt quickly. Staying current can feel overwhelming, but it’s also one of the greatest opportunities. Those who embrace new tools, learn continuously, and stay flexible are becoming even more valuable as strategic partners to leadership.
Another challenge is visibility. Administrative work is essential, but it often happens behind the scenes. The opportunity lies in redefining the role — showing leaders that strong administrative support is not just task execution, but business impact. When admins take ownership, anticipate needs, and operate with precision, they elevate the entire organization.
There is also a growing opportunity for community and collaboration. More admins are connecting through professional groups, LinkedIn, and mentorship networks. Sharing knowledge, asking questions, and learning from one another strengthens the entire profession. Being open to guidance and using other admins as a resource creates a support system that didn’t exist years ago.
Finally, attention to detail remains both a challenge and an opportunity. In a fast‑moving environment, proofreading your work, double‑checking information, and maintaining accuracy sets you apart. And when you don’t know something, being honest and willing to learn it builds trust and credibility.
Overall, the field is evolving quickly — but for those who stay curious, stay connected, and stay committed to excellence, it’s an exciting time to grow and lead.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me — both professionally and personally — are clarity, ownership, curiosity, kindness, integrity, and family. These guide how I show up for others, how I make decisions, and how I navigate challenges.
Clarity keeps me grounded. I believe in communicating with intention, setting expectations, and ensuring the people I support have what they need to succeed.
Ownership is at the core of my work ethic. I take responsibility for my actions, my outcomes, and the quality of what I deliver. That includes the fundamentals: proofreading my work, double‑checking details, and holding myself to a high standard.
Curiosity drives my growth. If I don’t know something, I’m comfortable saying I don’t know — and I’m equally committed to learning it. Staying open to new tools, new systems, and new ways of working keeps me adaptable and relevant.
Kindness shapes how I treat people. I believe in showing up with empathy, respect, and patience, whether I’m supporting executives, collaborating with teams, or mentoring other administrative professionals.
Integrity is non‑negotiable. I lead with honesty, confidentiality, and trustworthiness. It’s the foundation of strong relationships and effective partnership.
And family is at the heart of everything I do. Being a mom and a wife has shaped my resilience, my compassion, and my belief in showing up for others. My family keeps me grounded, reminds me of what truly matters, and inspires me to lead with purpose both at work and at home.
I also value community and connection. I believe in asking for advice, learning from other admins, and using the administrative community as a resource — whether that’s reaching out on LinkedIn, seeking guidance, or sharing knowledge with others. We grow stronger when we learn from one another.
These values guide every part of my life. They help me support leaders with excellence, build meaningful relationships, and stay grounded in purpose — both personally and professionally.
