Her Story

About Tamra

Tamra S. Gann-Curry is an experienced Private Wealth Manager, LPL Financial Advisor, and Retirement Specialist with nearly three decades of expertise in the financial services industry. She specializes in comprehensive financial planning, retirement income strategies, wealth preservation, and insurance solutions, providing individuals, families, and business owners with personalized, long-term financial guidance. Her practice is built on a client-first philosophy focused on clarity, confidence, and disciplined financial decision-making.

Her professional journey is both unconventional and deeply entrepreneurial. She initially pursued a career in fashion before shifting paths after marriage and dedicating time to raising her children in the late 1980s and early 1990s. She entered the financial services industry part-time while working with her mother, an insurance agent, which led to her transition into a full-time role with a major insurance brokerage firm. She later joined Nationwide during its expansion into Texas, where she gained valuable experience establishing offices and supporting new agents. When she expressed interest in becoming an agent herself, she was redirected from that opportunity—an experience that ultimately led her to MetLife, where she excelled after achieving high aptitude results and began building her professional foundation in wealth management and insurance.

After eight years at MetLife, Tamra S. Gann-Curry established her own independent practice more than 20 years ago and has operated as an independent financial professional ever since. Today, she runs her wealth management and insurance firm through LPL Financial, the largest independent broker-dealer in the United States. Guided by a strong entrepreneurial spirit, she has built a career centered on independence, integrity, and long-term client relationships, with extensive experience serving senior clients and individuals navigating retirement. She believes true success in financial services comes from dedication, trust, and a commitment to improving clients’ lives—emphasizing that her role is not simply about products or sales, but about making a meaningful impact on the financial well-being of the people she serves.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Tamra

01What do you attribute your success to?

I did not grow up with money. I grew up in a very humble household, and I think I determined early on that I was not going to be poor. That was my drive I just knew that I didn't want to be poor. And so, whatever it took, I was going to make it happen. When I was 16, I thought I wanted to be a homemaking teacher, but then I realized that there wasn't really any money in that, and the future wasn't going in that direction. I did have the ability to foresee that. My drive has always been that I wanted to be in a position where I could make a decent living for myself and not have to depend upon anybody else to get me through.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

You need to have a love for people and a strong work ethic. If you don't love people in this business, and you're just doing it for the money, then you need to look elsewhere. We are not salesmen you're affecting people's lives. And so, if you don't have a love for people, you shouldn't be in this field. Because if you love the people, and you love what you're doing, the money's gonna come. Don't do it just for the money, because it does pay well, but that's not the reason to be in this business. I've worked a lot with seniors over my career, and they're like little kids - they can just see through you. So, if you're not sincere, and you don't really have a heart for it, then you don't need to be in this business.
