Her Story
About Tawni
I believe in the transformative power of empathy & in the healing that comes when we create space in our lives for restorative experiences. I have come to believe that when we begin to take steps toward personal wellness, a special kind of bravery begins to grow inside of us. With compassion & consistency, it is this kind of strength that I love to highlight.
It is a deep joy of mine to work with underserved populations. I have experience providing trauma-informed therapy to refugee children & their families, facilitating mental healthcare workshops in cross-cultural environments, & presenting research-based, attachment-focused trainings to ministry leaders, teachers, & the general public. I love helping people understand their own mental/emotional health in accessible & practical ways.
As a National Certified Counselor™, I am specifically licensed to practice therapy in the State of Utah as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CMHC) & Approved Clinical Supervisor, as well as in the State of Colorado as Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Theology with Honors in the EU, & went on to receive my Master of Arts with Highest Honors in Counseling at Dallas Theological Seminary. I'm currently working on my Doctor of Ministry degree in Spiritual Formation & Leadership at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Tawni
01What do you attribute your success to?
My relationship with God as my Father has been dynamic and reshapes who I am over and over. I've also had so many good people surrounding me over the years who see the best in me and choose to remain present in my life. There is a deep sense of hope in my heart that tomorrow can always be brighter and this hope creates momentum to keep moving toward my goals.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Follow the joy and passion! Trust yourself and be humble. Listen more than you speak and always be in a posture to learn from others. Take it slow and give yourself grace as you build your career. Be present in the moment, rather than just looking for the finish line. The process itself is beautiful and poignant.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Be gentle with yourself. Understand that we can't know everything and stay humble. Ask questions. Focus on compassion as you move forward.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I've found that my dual passion at the intersection of religion and psychology presents both dynamic opportunities and unique challenges.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Authenticity, empathy, compassion, seeking others' benefit, listening, humility, persistence, resilience, self-understanding, and choosing solitude for personal growth and connection with God.
