About Tia
Tia Starr is a healthcare operations executive currently serving as Senior Director of Operations at an infusion unit. She earned her master's degree in healthcare administration from the University of New Orleans after beginning her career through a fellowship program and clinic roles. Starr founded Ascension Parks Foundations four years ago to update local parks, provide recreation opportunities for children, and remove financial barriers to youth sports programs. The nonprofit has provided free basketball registration to over 370 children annually for the past three years and is expanding into soccer and other sports. She is working toward ACMPE certification through MGMA, previously held a lab assistant certification, and holds a bachelor's degree. Starr is a member of Rotary International, co-founded a local young professionals group, and remains actively involved in community volunteering including food drives.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Be kind over anything else. Choose kindness every day as a leader, in handling rejection, and in all interactions.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
When someone tells you no, find another path. Have grit and be scrappy. Use no as motivation to push harder.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Economy and reduced corporate giving to nonprofits. Changing reimbursement rates and insurance in healthcare requiring constant pivoting.
