About Tina
Tina Mirro serves as a Microsoft Federal Consultant, a role she has held for nearly five years after joining Microsoft, bringing approximately 15 years of experience in the technology industry. She specializes in Microsoft Dynamics 365, Power Platform, CRM solutions, and enterprise digital transformation, helping organizations design and implement technology solutions that improve efficiency and deliver measurable business outcomes. Tina’s career journey is uniquely shaped by her early background in psychology and social services, which has strengthened her ability to understand people, build relationships, and create human-centered technology solutions. She earned dual bachelor’s degrees in Psychology, Fine Arts, and Gender Studies from Montclair State University in 2010, where she served as an Outreach Coordinator and Counselor at the Women’s Center and founded the Campus Coalition Against Trafficking chapter. After graduation, Tina began her career as a case manager and therapist supporting homeless veterans through the VA’s Community Hope program. Following a car accident, she transitioned into the technology field by leveraging her passion for problem-solving and technology, starting as an IT Administrator at Marts & Lundy, Inc., where she advanced to IT Director. During this time, she developed expertise in systems administration, CRM platforms, cybersecurity, project management, and Microsoft technologies, eventually moving into consulting roles with multiple organizations before joining Microsoft. In her current role, Tina leads Dynamics 365 implementations, supports digital transformation initiatives, develops innovative business solutions, and shares her expertise through speaking engagements focused on Dynamics 365, Power Platform, Copilot, enterprise architecture, and women in technology leadership. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Tina is deeply committed to community, mentorship, and continuous growth. She is an active member of Women in Tech and Women at Microsoft, where she advocates for inclusion and encourages others to pursue careers in technology, regardless of their career path or background. 01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to reinvention and resilience. My nonlinear career path, transitioning from psychology and case management into the technology industry, has allowed me to build upon a diverse set of skills, including empathy, communication, problem-solving, and organization. I view each experience as a building block, much like LEGO pieces, where every challenge and opportunity adds value to the foundation of my career. By embracing change, continuously learning, and leveraging the strengths gained from each chapter of my journey, I have been able to thrive and make a meaningful impact at Microsoft.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received was:“Don’t wait to be invited. Build the room you want to walk into.”
It taught me to stop waiting for permission — to pitch ideas, apply for roles that stretched me, volunteer to lead, and speak publicly before I felt “ready.” Every major turning point in my career came from stepping forward before I felt fully prepared. That advice reshaped how I navigate opportunities. I don’t dwell in imposter syndrome like I used to; I ask whether I’m willing to grow fast enough to meet the moment. And it’s shaped how I mentor other women — encouraging them to claim space with clarity, confidence, and intention.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would encourage young women entering the technology industry to seek out growth opportunities that support their professional development and advancement while also prioritizing their own well-being. It is important to take care of yourself, set boundaries, and avoid burnout as you build your career. If you are the first person in your family to pursue a STEM field, embrace the opportunity to be a trailblazer and create a path for those who follow. You do not need to know everything from the beginning; what matters is being willing to learn, communicate with confidence, ask questions, and continue growing throughout your journey.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest opportunities in my field right now come from embracing innovation, especially as artificial intelligence continues to transform the technology landscape. I believe the only thing truly limiting growth is yourself, and it is important to remain curious, adaptable, and willing to step into new challenges. Governance, security, and responsible AI implementation are becoming increasingly critical areas of focus as organizations adopt emerging technologies. My advice is to be intentional about the environments you choose to be part of surround yourself with people, opportunities, and communities that challenge you, accelerate your growth, and inspire you to continue evolving.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are community and integrity. I believe community is essential because when people feel supported, encouraged, and valued, they are empowered to thrive and achieve their full potential. Integrity is the foundation of how I approach everything I do I strive to remain authentic, stay true to my values, and ensure that who I am is reflected in my work, relationships, and the impact I make. These principles guide how I collaborate with others, build trust, and contribute positively to the people and organizations around me.

A Mission-Driven Early Career
I built my early career around psychology, advocacy, and crisis support, working with homeless veterans at the Lyons VA and Community Hope, counseling students at Montclair State University's Women's Center, conducting developmental research, and co-leading CCAT, a campus nonprofit dedicated to fighting human trafficking. My work was meaningful, human-centered, and mission-driven. But it was also emotionally heavy, and I had not yet envisioned a different future for myself.
Then the accident happened.
The Stillness That Changed Everything
It forced a pause I never would have taken on my own. For the first time, I had to sit still, and in that stillness, I had to ask myself whether the path I was on was the one I truly wanted to continue.
I realized something surprising: the moments that energized me most were not just the counseling or crisis work. They were the moments when I quietly modernized systems, digitized processes, organized chaos, and created structure where none existed.
I had always loved technology. I just never believed a STEM career was meant for me, especially as a woman who had often been "the gal Friday" at every job—the person who made things run smoothly behind the scenes but never saw herself as the architect of the systems themselves. The accident made me question that belief.
Rewriting the Résumé, Reframing the Story
So I did something bold: I rewrote my résumé to highlight the technology work I had been doing all along. I reframed my experience—not as administrative support, but as early systems thinking, process design, and digital transformation.
And someone saw it. Someone took a chance on me.
I became a sole IT administrator: terrified, excited, and determined. I learned quickly. I grew even faster. Eventually, I became an IT director, leading an entire department.
It was in that role that I discovered Microsoft Dynamics, and everything clicked. Technology was not just a job; it was a language I had been speaking my entire life without realizing it.
From there, I moved into consulting, helping organizations transform the way they work. Then, in a full-circle moment, I joined Microsoft Federal, where my very first client was the VA—the same community I had served years earlier as a case manager.
Two completely different chapters of my life collided in the most meaningful way.
My Crystal Milestone
Today, I am approaching my five-year anniversary at Microsoft—my crystal milestone—and I carry every part of my journey with me: the psychology, the advocacy, the accident, the reinvention, the IT leadership, the consulting, and the federal mission.
What I Learned
When things fell apart, I learned that setbacks are not endings; they are invitations. The accident did not derail my life—it revealed a different version of it.
I learned that the skills we dismiss as "just helping," "just organizing," or "just supporting" are often the early signs of our future leadership. I learned that women do not need permission to enter STEM; we need recognition of the brilliance we have already been demonstrating quietly.
And I learned that reinvention is not a failure—it is a strategy.
My story is not about a plan that worked. It is about a plan that did not, and the better one that emerged because of it.
