Her Story

About Tina

I wear many hats in ministry and writing. My official title is Chaplain at the Yakima County Department of Corrections, where I've served for 7 years, and I've been in ministry there for 12 years total. I also serve as a women's ministry leader for Friends Church, an international ministry. As a self-employed author, I've been writing for 12 years, and for the past 3 years I've been a devotional contributor for Guideposts. My main areas of expertise are teaching Bible studies, developing courses, and speaking at conferences and events. The Lord has allowed me to do international conference speaking as well, particularly in women's ministry. I also volunteer with Civil Air Patrol, an auxiliary of the Air Force and youth organization, where I teach character development and get to work directly in mentoring young adults. We have 3 kids in that program, and it's been an incredible experience. I'm also a part of CWIMA, the Christian Women in Media Association, where I serve as their noonday prayer coordinator.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Tina

01What do you attribute your success to?

Jesus. I attribute my success entirely to Jesus and keeping the right focus on Him. When asked directly what I attribute my success to, my answer is simply Jesus. The best career advice I've ever been given, coming from a Christian perspective, is to keep the right focus, and that's what has guided me throughout my journey.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever been given, coming from a Christian perspective, is to keep the right focus. This has been foundational to everything I do in ministry and writing, helping me stay centered on what truly matters rather than getting distracted by all the opportunities and challenges that come my way.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say learn to frame things rightly. What I mean by that is framing mistakes in a way that we can move forward from, framing situations by remembering that this is just a season, and learning to gain the right perspective. Gaining the right perspective helps in so many ways as you navigate your career and calling.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I think there are so many opportunities right now. Some of the biggest opportunities are creating resources to equip others in their own language. One of the things that we've been working on is translation into other languages in order to equip believers in those areas to grow and to have a good, firm foundation on which to stand. The challenges, I think, are that there are so many opportunities, but it can be hard at times to know where to focus.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I've spent time reflecting upon my own personal core values, which are sourced in the Word of God. Those values are kindness, love, and truth. These three values guide everything I do, both in my ministry work and in my personal life.
