01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my ability to recognize change before everyone else does and after I started my first software company in 1985, at just 19 years old over the last 40 years, I've navigated the technology revolution, the internet, social media, and now artificial intelligence, continually adapting to technological and market disruption, while focusing on creating meaningful results for the people and organizations I serve.
I have built my career helping entrepreneurs, executives and organizations turn change into competitive advantage. Most importantly, my definition of success has evolved as it doesn't come from knowing everything, it comes from recognizing when the rules have changed and being willing to change with them.
That's actually what led me to identify and establish the ecosystem of the Authority Economy.
I saw AI fundamentally changing the value of expertise, and I knew business owners needed a new way to position themselves.
The greatest opportunity often comes from recognizing the shift before the market catches up.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
One principle that has guided my career is this:
Don't build a business that simply makes you successful. Build something that makes a difference.
I've spent decades helping entrepreneurs and organizations build businesses, but I've learned that expertise alone doesn't create the recognition, income or impact people deserve.
You can be exceptional at what you do and still be overlooked.
That's why I teach Authority Alignment™.
It's about ensuring the authority you've spent years earning is actually reflected in your positioning, messaging, offers and the trust you build with your market.
It's also why I encourage people to stop asking, 'How can I compete with everyone else?'
Instead, ask: 'What have I done that AI can’t replace?'
Because when you can answer that question and communicate it clearly, you stop competing on price and start becoming the Trusted Choice.
The bottom line is don't compete on what you do. Become known for the value only you can deliver.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering business is simple: Don't wait until someone calls you an authority to start building your authority. Build your career around becoming the most trusted.
I started my first software company in 1985 at just 19 years old, entering an industry where women were rarely seen as technology leaders.
I learned early that you don't need permission to lead, but you do need the courage to believe in your vision before others recognize its value.
Over 40 years, I've watched entire industries transform through technology, the internet, social media and now artificial intelligence.
One lesson has remained constant: Your greatest competitive advantage isn't simply what you know. It's what you do with what you know, the results you create, and the reputation you earn along the way.
That's especially important today. AI can generate information, strategies and content in seconds, but it cannot simply replicate your lived experience, judgment, relationships or the impact you make on others.
This is the foundation of what I call the Authority Economy, where trust is the new currency and earned authority is the competitive advantage.
I encourage young women to develop their expertise, find their voice, create their own intellectual property, document their results and never underestimate the value of their unique perspective.
And most importantly, don't define success solely by income, recognition or titles.
Build a career that gives you the freedom to make a difference, live with purpose and create a Legacy Life® you're proud of.
Live a Legacy Life® — Not Just Leave One.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest transformation in my field is the rise of AI and the shift from an Information Economy to what I describe as the Authority Economy.
AI is making intelligence, information, content and expertise increasingly abundant and accessible. and when this happens that creates a significant challenge for established experts and organizations: simply knowing something or producing more content is no longer enough to differentiate yourself.
With information no longer the scarce resource, the economy changed and trust becomes the new competitive advantage.
This creates a major opportunity to identify, collect, protect and leverage the authority organizations have already earned—including their expertise, intellectual property, credibility, proof, relationships and reputation.
The organizations that successfully translate those assets into trust and Authority Capital can strengthen their differentiation and become the trusted choice in an increasingly AI-driven marketplace.
So the opportunity isn't to produce more content or become more visible, it's to create Authority Alignment™ across the seven critical pillars of your business, and activate the Authority Signals that make your credibility recognizable by your buyers.
And it's why I wrote my newest book, The 12 Laws of the Authority Economy.
Because the rules have changed, and I want entrepreneurs and corporations to understand how to remain trusted, relevant and chosen in the age of AI.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
My values come down to five things: integrity, impact, purpose, freedom and legacy.
Integrity matters because trust is earned through what you do, not simply what you say.
Impact matters because success isn't just about what you achieve. It's about the difference you make in other people's lives.
And freedom matters because I don't believe we should build businesses that consume our lives.
That's why I created my Legacy Life® Methodology.
My philosophy is simple:
Live a Legacy Life — Not Just Leave One.
And that connects directly to the Authority Economy.
When you build genuine authority, you're building Authority Capital — the accumulated value of your expertise, credibility, proof, relationships and reputation.
Revenue supports your life today. Authority Capital helps build your freedom and legacy for tomorrow.
