Her Story
About Tuesday
I've been in healthcare for 18 years, starting my career as a corpsman in the United States Navy before transitioning to family practice offices. After moving to Florida, I found my calling as a performance improvement specialist at a not-for-profit hospice. Hospice has always been my heart, and that's where I've spent the majority of my career. Today, I work for a very large hospice organization with multiple programs throughout multiple states, supporting 20 of those programs as a property compliance advocate from the corporate office. My day is always something different and exciting - one program may have a surveyor in the building, another may have employees that need assistance with a performance improvement project. I'm constantly keeping things going. My most notable professional achievement was earning a promotion to the corporate office last year, which was significant because in smaller companies, people in my position don't normally get promotions to higher positions. Outside of work, my husband and I have owned and operated a sustainable farm for the last 14 years, where we raise goats, chickens, and run a thriving Thanksgiving turkey business. We're passionate about growing our own meat after a disappointing Christmas dinner inspired us to take control of our food quality.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Tuesday
01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I received was from a coworker who had worked her way up into leadership positions in the same company I worked for. She told me, 'Tuesday, stop impressing the people in your building, in your program. Impress their bosses and their bosses' bosses. Make sure you're seen by the big leadership.' I took that advice, and I got my promotion!
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Work hard and ask questions every single day. That's what I tell the people I mentor every day - ask me a question. If my new performance improvement specialist doesn't ask me a question, if I don't hear from them in a couple of days, I'm like, okay, where are you at? Where's your questions? Have a work-life balance, I think that's very important. And ask questions.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Hospice is in the news lately, and I could talk about that for hours, but I think the biggest challenge is that people have an opportunity to receive hospice care, good hospice care, good end-of-life care. I think that's really important. It's not necessarily a challenge, but in some markets, it can be a challenge in underserved communities that are really cut out of care.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity, empathy, kindness, and compassion are the values most important to me in my work and personal life.
