Her Story
About Vanessa
I entered the world of sales somewhat unexpectedly in 2008, right after completing college. My brother-in-law was in the car business as a car salesman, and he told me about a position selling aftermarket products. I honestly thought I probably couldn't do sales, but he encouraged me to just try it. That random opportunity became my introduction into sales, and I've been in the field for about 18 years now. For the past 4 and a half years, I've been with Brinks Home Security doing inside sales. My responsibilities include making outgoing calls and taking incoming calls, going over product knowledge with customers, getting them to sign up with our system, and explaining why our system is better than our competitors. What I love most about my job is having really good conversations with people, meeting different types of people, and making them feel comfortable and secure with our company at the end of the call. I genuinely love our product because I have the system myself, so I'm selling something I actually know works. Last year in 2025 was particularly rewarding as I finished with the highest activations in the entire company and came in at number 2 in sales with 641 sales, just 10 sales behind the top performer who had 651. Looking ahead, I'm always open to different sales opportunities and want to get into more real estate and explore tech sales to find other avenues where I can capitalize on my skills and continue learning.

01What do you attribute your success to?
The key factor to my success has definitely always been reinventing yourself and always knowing that no matter how good you are, there's always room for improvement. I'm always trying to improve each month, each day, with some type of skill, adding on a skill or picking up a skill. I'm always trying to basically learn something new to make myself better, no matter how comfortable I get. The important thing is to not get comfortable. I continuously work on developing new abilities and refining what I already know because I believe you can always get better no matter how long you've been in any industry.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
The advice that I would have for young women entering this field is to stay true to yourself. Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and what you're used to. Whenever you find your niche, make sure you capitalize off of that. Continue to get better and just always know that you can always get better, no matter what. No matter how long you've been in any industry, there's always room for improvement.
