Her Story
About veronica
Veronica Greene serves as owner, educator, mentor, and department head of a salon in Portland, Oregon, following a merger and acquisition where she helped facilitate operations and build the team. She holds a cosmetology trade degree, which she pursued as part of a deal with her parents to later attend art school, and has over 25 years of experience in the field, having worked behind the chair for most of that time before stepping away. Greene began her career after living above a beauty school and securing a brand deal with Tony and Guy Bedhead, which exposed her to global educators and stage performers. Internationally, she trained hairdressers across Singapore and the West Indies on handling curly hair, an effort sparked by a news reporter's experience in a humid climate. She counts her role as a core creative team member for the North American presentation at the Alternative Hair Show in London in 2018 among her most cherished accomplishments. Greene attributes her success to consistently moving forward while prioritizing rest, recovery, and grounding herself when feeling agitated. She advises young women entering the industry to be willing to be bad at something new, maintain an open mind, cultivate a growth mindset, and allow boundaries to develop later.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with veronica
01What do you attribute your success to?
I always tried to put one foot in front of the other, and focus on my own rest and recovery. If I feel agitated too often or unregulated, then I put the focus back on grounding and centering myself, because being in an agitated state doesn't help me work towards a larger goal.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Be willing to be bad at something new. The beauty industry is constantly evolving. Keep a really open mind and be willing to learn from the people around you. Cultivate a growth mindset. Boundaries come later.
