Her Interview

Ten minutes with Vita

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to always being a learner and never stopping the process of learning. I always learn something new every day. Having the peace of mind and the ability to reason is key because without that we can't even learn anything. Continuous learning has been one of the attributes to my success because the industry moves so fast with apps, systems, and directions. You need to have the basic fundamentals of learning and it will always get you through until you are able to catch on to the more sophisticated stuff.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice that resonated with me is always be learning. Never stop learning. Never consider that you know it all, and if you get around anyone that knows it all, get away from them. Always learn something new every day. Having the peace of mind and the ability to reason is important because without that we can't even learn anything.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't be so anxious to boss anybody around but yourself. Boss yourself but lead others. Don't be so in a hurry to put other people down. Lift while leading. I'm into being a leader, educator and a mentor. So I boss me around, but I lead you.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The challenges I see now are educating the residents. They've been groomed to be consumers instead of being groomed to be leaders for themselves. It's hard to get them to consume versus at some point I'm not going to be a renter, at some point I'm going to be a buyer. If we bring people into that mindset coming right out of the gate, they'll take better care of the product, have more respect for the individuals that they're working with during that process of renting, and it'll have more outcomes of being some owner outside of being a renter all the time.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity and mentorship are most important to me. Other individuals still look back to say wherever you are, let me know, I want to come and work with you. I lift while leading. I never make anyone feel that they are less than. I'm into being a leader, educator and a mentor. Personal growth, integrity, fairness, equity, ethical leadership, respect and service are key values.
