Yolanda Davis has built a career in marketing since 2005, beginning with positions at the New York Times company. There, her mentor Vicki Hamilton recognized her potential early and provided opportunities that allowed Davis to demonstrate her capabilities, leading to awards such as Team of the Year and Sales Supervisor of the Year. She later worked as an office manager and tax professional before becoming involved in education at Southern Technical College in Tampa, Florida, where she received an outstanding teacher award and now serves as a distance educator. In addition to her marketing and education work, Davis is a motivational speaker focused on her Unbreakable movement. She is authoring a book titled Becoming Unbreakable that combines her personal stories with motivational quotes and poems. Davis attributes her success to self-belief and the support of her mentor, and she emphasizes the values of integrity, family, and kindness in all aspects of her work and life. 01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to believing in myself and my abilities, as my mentor Vicki Hamilton saw my potential early on and gave me opportunities because she knew I would run with them 100%. My focus on providing for my children kept me motivated to learn and succeed in everything I did.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice came from my mentor Vicki Hamilton who told me 'I believe in you, and I believe in everything that you can do, and anything you put your hands on, you're gonna succeed in it.' She saw my potential when I was young and learning everything I could.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Always be learning something new. It may get hard sometimes but there is a lesson to be learned afterwards. Slow down, evaluate yourself and what you want to achieve and set goals from there.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Currently I'm on a sabbatical to take care of my health due to being diagnosed with Multiple sclerosis and writing a book to talk about my experiences in life and how I'm dealing with those experiences. Though I still do speaking engagements at schools, businesses and communities.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity is most important to me professionally and personally because what you do in your job matters as you're setting an example. Family and kindness above all else, as a kind word or smile can make a huge difference and you never know what someone is going through.

Sometimes the elevator has to break down so you'll take the stairs.
When you take the stairs, you learn how to climb. And when you learn how to climb, you discover the hardships that come with the journey.
You may get tired, but keep climbing.
You may need to take a break, but keep climbing.
You may look up and feel discouraged because you still have a long way to go, but keep climbing.
You may get frustrated because other people are passing you, but keep climbing.
You may want to quit because you don't think you're going to make it, but keep climbing.
You may even stumble and fall back a few steps, but keep climbing.
With tears running down your face, keep climbing.
Then, when you finally reach the top and look back at how far you've come, you'll realize the climb made you stronger, wiser, and better.
The elevator may have gotten you there faster, but the climb shaped you into the person God needed you to be.

Shifting Gears In Life
Always be ready for takeoff and trust the journey ahead.
You know what I've always loved about flying? It's the takeoff.
As the plane sits and waits for its turn to soar, it patiently listens for directions. In life, I call that prayer and waiting on God's guidance.
Then your turn comes. It's called opportunity.
When you don't take it, your journey gets delayed. You may not arrive when you expected, but eventually, you do.
My thought is simple: always be ready for takeoff.
There may be storms ahead, and the ride may get shaky, but eventually, you'll arrive.
So keep taking off. Keep soaring. Keep trusting. And keep arriving.

It's a new season
Embrace Change and Take Flight Toward Your Dreams Without Fear
Nobody likes change, I get it. But don't be angry or bitter when things change. Don't be upset with people, especially when you know you did right by them and did all you could do for the friendship or relationship.
I'm sorry to tell you this, my friend, but this moment was not about them. It was all about you.
I'm telling you, if God has allowed you to become so uncomfortable in your situation, whatever it may be, then it's time for you to move. Don't be afraid. Just fly!
Now here's the question: What situation in your life has become so uncomfortable that you feel like you're being starved for what you need? Maybe it's God's way of telling you that it's time to fly.
It's time to fly for your own dreams, your own hopes, your own goals, and your own future. Make this the year that you leave the nest without fear.
Last thing, and then I'm done.
There is one part of the eagle story that I haven't told you yet, and this is my favorite part. If those baby eagles leave the nest and try to fly but things aren't going well, the same mother bird that provided for them while they were in the nest will fly beneath them to keep them from falling, help keep them on course, and give them a sense of security.
God's got you. Don't be afraid. He won't let you fall.
Be uplifted.
Be inspired.
