The First Person Who Paid Her for Her Talent

The moment a skill became something other people valued too.

Quote Lori Lesniak, Managing Partner & Co-Founder, Notaries On Wheels LLC | Apostille Agent, Notary Public & Notary Signing Agent on Influential Women

My first paid mobile notary appointment made me realize that I wasn't simply being paid for a signature and stamp I was being paid for my knowledge, reliability, and ability to make an important process easier for someone. That experience showed me that something I knew how to do could become a business built around helping people when and where they need us.

The first time I was paid for something I knew how to do, I realized that my skills had value outside of my regular job. It showed me that what comes naturally to me can also be something worth paying for.

My first paid opportunity came from realizing that something I had learned and built could create real value for someone else. It taught me early that expertise becomes powerful when you use it to solve problems, create opportunities, and make a meaningful difference and that realization has shaped my career ever since.

Quote Joslyn Bauer, Founder / Certified Insight Coach on Influential Women

I remember my first paid coaching opportunity because it reinforced something I have always believed: Sometimes people don't lack ambition or ability. They simply don't know where to begin. I worked with a woman who wanted to find a job and return to school, but she felt overwhelmed and unsure of where to start. Through coaching, I helped her identify her goals, explore her options, and create actionable steps toward employment and continuing her education. What made that experience meaningful wasn't the money I received. It was knowing that the knowledge and experience I had gained over the years could help someone else move forward. That experience taught me that our talents have value, not just financially, but in the difference we can make in someone's life. It also reinforced my passion for coaching and education, which continues to guide my work through IMUA Path. My advice to other women is this: Never underestimate the value of your knowledge and experiences. What may seem ordinary to you could be exactly what someone else needs to change the direction of her life. Sometimes all a person needs is someone who believes in her potential and helps her take that first step.
