Volunteering with children and families in need challenged me to look beyond their circumstances and see their potential. It strengthened my commitment to helping others and shaped the woman I am today compassionate, resilient, and determined to make a difference.
When I began co-captaining a Susan G. Komen walk team, I thought I was simply giving back to a cause that had become deeply personal after my own breast cancer experience. Five years later, I've learned that volunteering gives something back too, turning a difficult chapter into connection, purpose, and hope for others.
When I signed up for my first Breast Cancer 3-Day 22 years ago, I thought I was volunteering to raise money and walk 60 miles for a cause. I had no idea that the experience, and the incredible people I would meet along the way, would shape who I am, what I value, and how deeply I believe in the power of showing up for others. One of these days we will find a cure!
