Becoming the Woman I Once Needed

Becoming the Woman I Once Needed

I used to think I needed to have my entire life figured out.

I thought success meant following a straight path: graduate, build a successful career, reach my goals, and eventually feel like I had made it. But as I have grown, I have realized that life rarely follows the timeline we create for ourselves.

My journey has taught me that becoming an influential woman isn't about having everything figured out. It is about continuing to grow, learning from the experiences that challenge me, and having the courage to keep moving forward.

I have always been ambitious. I studied finance because I wanted to understand how businesses work, how financial decisions are made, and how I could build a career that challenged me intellectually. I have pursued internships, professional opportunities, and leadership positions because I have always wanted to push myself beyond what feels comfortable.

But ambition has not always been easy.

There have been moments when I questioned myself. Moments when I wondered if I was doing enough, if I was moving quickly enough, or if I was making the right decisions for my future.

I have learned that it is very easy to compare yourself to other people, especially as a young woman trying to build a career. We see someone's promotion, someone's new job, or someone's accomplishments and sometimes forget that we are only seeing one small part of their story.

I have had to remind myself that my journey does not need to look like anyone else's.

One of the biggest lessons I have learned is that resilience is built in the moments when nobody is watching.

It is getting back up after rejection.

It is continuing to apply when you hear "no."

It is walking into a room where you feel inexperienced and reminding yourself that you deserve to be there.

It is making mistakes and choosing to learn from them instead of allowing them to define you.

I have also learned a lot about myself through leadership.

Being a leader taught me that influence is not about being the loudest person in the room. It is about listening, taking responsibility, supporting the people around you, and being willing to step forward when something needs to be done.

I have learned that I don't want to lead simply so I can have a title. I want to lead in a way that makes other people feel capable.

That is the kind of woman I want to become.

I want to be someone who encourages other women to take chances on themselves. I want to remind young women that being ambitious does not make them intimidating, that asking questions does not make them incapable, and that not knowing the answer does not mean they don't belong in the room.

I have also learned that I don't have to choose just one version of myself.

I can be career-driven and still want a meaningful personal life.

I can be independent and still ask for help.

I can be ambitious while also wanting balance.

I can care about financial success while also caring about happiness, relationships, family, health, and the small things that make everyday life meaningful.

For a long time, I thought I had to become a certain version of a "successful woman." Now, I am more interested in becoming the version of myself that feels authentic.

I don't want my worth to be defined only by my job title, salary, education, or accomplishments.

I want to be proud of the person I am when nobody is looking.

I want to continue learning. I want to build a career I am proud of. I want to become financially independent. I want to experience new places, meet new people, and continue challenging myself. And I want to use everything I learn along the way to help someone else.

Because I know what it feels like to be at the beginning.

I know what it feels like to question yourself.

I know what it feels like to wonder whether you are good enough.

And I know how powerful it can be when someone simply tells you, "Keep going. You are capable of more than you think."

I want to be that person for someone else.

When I think about what it means to be an influential woman, I no longer think about fame or having thousands of people know my name.

I think about impact.

If something I say gives another woman the confidence to apply for the job she is afraid she won't get, speak up in a meeting, start over, pursue her education, or simply believe in herself a little more, then I have made an impact.

And maybe that is what influence really means to me.

It isn't about being perfect.

It isn't about having all the answers.

It is about being willing to grow, being honest about the journey, and using what I learn to lift other people up.

I am still figuring things out.

I am still learning who I am and what I want my future to look like.

But I no longer see that as something I should be embarrassed about.

I see it as an opportunity.

I am becoming the woman I once needed.

And I am excited to see who she becomes.
