Breaking Barriers in Heavy Industry: How Drive, Curiosity, and Resilience Build an Endless Career
From Inventory Assistant to Executive Leader: A Journey of Determination, Growth, and Giving Back
My career in the heavy equipment industry began in October 2018 when I took on a role as an Inventory Assistant.
Rather than simply completing my daily tasks, I recognized a critical gap in formal documentation and independently authored comprehensive SOPs to streamline inventory processes and create a structured onboarding foundation for future hires. I brought an eager mind, a hunger to learn, and an eye for organizational efficiency. I felt the need to prove to everyone, and to myself, that as a young Hispanic female entering a traditional industry, I was capable and would make it.
Within just six months, that dedication paid off: I was promoted to Purchasing and Inventory Controller, overseeing all five enterprise locations. By 2021, my hard work led to a promotion into management, expanding my scope to oversee the Logistics Department alongside enterprise-wide procurement and inventory control. Today, at HardRok Equipment Inc., I support the CEO as an Executive Assistant and Project Planner, where I help streamline strategic operations and am currently rolling out the company's very first CRM system.
Throughout this journey, my secret has been simple: approaching every challenge with humility and enthusiasm. I consistently seek out guidance from experienced professionals, welcome constructive feedback as a gift for self-improvement, and embrace every opportunity to expand my knowledge base.
My determination and work ethic are deeply rooted in the sacrifices my parents made for our family.
Having worked as field laborers, my parents encouraged us to pursue stable careers and build better opportunities for ourselves. My father later transitioned into the construction industry, where he has built an inspiring career spanning more than 30 years. Seeing their hard work and perseverance continues to inspire me every single day. Their example drives me to push beyond my comfort zone, hold myself to the highest standards of accountability, and make the absolute most of every opportunity that comes my way.
As a woman navigating male-dominated industries, I am deeply committed to paving the way for others. I want to encourage women, especially those just starting out, to believe in themselves, remain persistent, trust their capabilities, and view professional growth as an ongoing journey of learning and adaptation.
For me, personal development and community service go hand in hand with professional growth.
Outside of work, I prioritize my physical and mental health through exercise and self-care. I believe that true growth extends beyond career titles and requires investing in your well-being so you can perform at your best.
Giving back is a core part of who I am. I am deeply involved with Wreaths Across America, a nationwide initiative honoring fallen veterans each December. This mission is personal to me: my brother, a veteran, is buried at our local Galt-Arno Cemetery. Through raising awareness, encouraging sponsorships, and coordinating community participation, I help support the annual effort to honor nearly 750 veterans at the cemetery.
Along the way, I have learned that every journey comes with its own set of milestones, setbacks, and invaluable lessons. Looking back on the experiences that have shaped my path, three fundamental principles stand out as the bedrock of both personal and professional fulfillment.
- The Power of Belief Over Credentials: While formal education and academic credentials certainly have their place, they are rarely enough on their own to guarantee meaningful progress. Time and again, I have seen how raw confidence, when anchored by a relentless work ethic and an insatiable eagerness to learn, can carry you far beyond what any degree promises. Credentials might open the door, but it is your underlying drive, adaptability, and refusal to back down from a challenge that truly keep you in the room.
- How Openness Drives Real Growth: True development happens when you actively step outside your comfort zone and invite constructive growth. Progress isn't passive; it requires seeking out candid feedback, leaning on the wisdom of experienced mentors, and taking initiative before opportunity is handed to you. When you cultivate a mindset that anticipates problems and solves them proactively, you transform everyday routine into a continuous trajectory of learning.
- Building Grounded, Lasting Success: Reaching a goal means very little if you lose sight of what brought you there in the first place. Meaningful, lasting success is deeply rooted in staying humble, honoring where you came from, and prioritizing your overall well-being along the way. Ultimately, true achievement isn't just about individual gain; it is measured by how effectively you use your own journey to uplift, inspire, and create space for those around you to thrive as well.
