BREAKING BARRIERS: WOMEN LEADING IN ENGINEERING AND ENERGY

Women Leading the Future of the Energy Sector

In the contemporary energy sector, women are emerging not only as contributors but also as leaders who are actively shaping its future. My progression from academic research in materials science to a leadership role in pipeline integrity has revealed that technical expertise alone is insufficient; it is equally important to inspire, mentor, and advocate for inclusion.

Having worked in pipeline engineering, I have observed the pressing challenges associated with ensuring safety, compliance, and innovation in hydrogen-rich environments. These challenges require resilience and creativity—attributes that women possess in abundance. However, representation within the industry remains inadequate. This underscores the importance of professional networks such as Ghana Gas Ladies, which foster environments where women can exchange knowledge, build confidence, and amplify their voices.

Leadership, in my view, transcends mere titles; it is fundamentally about impact. Whether I am mentoring emerging engineers, designing protective coatings for pipelines, or balancing professional responsibilities with family obligations, I strive to lead with authenticity and purpose. By sharing our stories, we demonstrate to the next generation that engineering is not solely a career path but also a platform for influence and transformation.

The energy sector stands at a pivotal juncture, and women must play an active role in developing solutions. Our perspectives enhance innovation, our voices promote collaboration, and our presence helps ensure that progress is inclusive.

My call to action is simple: let us continue breaking barriers, inspiring one another, and leading confidently in the areas where our contributions are needed most.
