Doors of Opportunity
From college rejection to building my own future: how discipline and self-teaching transformed my life.
When I graduated college, I was staring at a future that felt empty. No offers. No real direction. Just the creeping fear that maybe I wasn’t going to make it. It would have been easy to give up on myself in that moment, but something rose up in me—a refusal to let my story end that way.
So I made a decision: I would build the skills no one could take from me. I learned to code. I studied AI systems until they finally made sense. I rebuilt my confidence through discipline long before anyone recognized my potential. Every night I spent teaching myself was a vote for the life I wanted, not the life I felt stuck with.
And that work became my foundation. I went from having no opportunities to earning a role at a venture capital firm, where I now work at the intersection of AI, energy, and investment. I’m building a data company. I’m creating my own lane. I’m shaping the future I once thought was out of reach.
My story is proof that your lowest moments can become the foundation for your highest ones. You are allowed to rewrite your ending. You are allowed to shock yourself with what you’re capable of. When the world doesn’t open a door for you, let that be the moment you realize you can build one.
