Explaining the crucial 'Why' of Brooke In The Air Travel
Discovering Life's Purpose Through Global Exploration and Cultural Connection
I've had the question asked at times, often in casual conversations: "Brooke, why are you so personally invested in travel?"
I cleaned the question up a bit, but it's accurate. It's also a fair question. In earlier articles, I explained the how. Now, I'll explain the why.
I came to realize, steadily, after graduate school, that travel is the lifeblood of humanity. That is a huge statement, so I'll elaborate. As humans, we're afforded a limited time on this earth. The average lifespan for men is about 72 years, whereas the average lifespan for women is about 78 years. Of those years, if we retire at the age of 72, men have, on average, six months, and women have six years. That isn't nearly enough time to enjoy life. Our purpose is to enjoy life and all it offers, not to work ourselves to death. Work is important, yes, but it is not the end-all of life.
I found this to be the heartfelt truth when I took my very first international trip in 2005, during my senior year of high school. It was a trip reserved exclusively for honors students who were graduating seniors. The thought finally sank in later, in 2013, during college, when I was writing a paper for one of my classes. I realized that, as much as I loved university life (specifically academia, I must emphasize that. I didn't "party" in college, graduate school, or law school), I didn't want to work in one place forever after graduation and be stuck in a sedentary, sterile position for years on end.
Ultimately, travel, I have discovered, teaches you about the world, encourages open-mindedness, and encourages you to learn about and embrace different cultures and different peoples. Open-mindedness is something we could all benefit from, and a progressive mentality is something to be embraced. Learning about other cultures and peoples makes us better ourselves.
At Brooke In The Air Travel (brookeintheairtravel.net), we encourage and have built our business on educating others about the wonders of travel. We specialize in helping women travel safely, but we are open to all. We want people to experience the unadulterated joy of our planet before our time on this earth is up.
We have set criteria for reviewing hotels and airlines (cruises, etc., fall under similar criteria). Service, ease of check-in/check-out, expectations, overall customer service, food offerings, amenities, cost, and location are some of the set criteria we look for when reviewing a hotel property, for example.
Each year, Brooke In The Air Travel lets progress shine through our business endeavors. We continuously donate to The Trevor Project, The Innocence Project, Southern Poverty Law Center, the American Civil Liberties Union, No Kid Hungry, and the Transgender Law Center, among other causes that speak deeply to us as an independent, forward-thinking small business.
