For the Love Of Me

How My Breast Cancer Journey Inspired My Life Coaching Mission

When I began building my life coaching business, I wasn’t simply creating a service. I was building something rooted in my personal journey, my experiences, and my belief that everyone deserves to live a healthier, more fulfilling life.

After my breast cancer diagnosis, while finishing chemotherapy and preparing for a double mastectomy, I decided to pursue my life coaching certification. Even during one of the most challenging periods of my life, I was thinking about my future and how I could turn my experiences into something meaningful. I knew I wanted to help others, and I began to see self-care as a crucial part of that mission.

My journey taught me how easily we can put ourselves last. We spend so much time caring for our families, supporting our friends, showing up at work, and meeting everyone else’s needs that we sometimes forget to care for ourselves. We may feel guilty about taking a break, setting boundaries, or making our own well-being a priority.

But self-care is not selfish. It is essential.

I often think about the safety instructions we hear on an airplane: when the oxygen masks drop, we are told to put on our own mask before helping someone else. That simple instruction carries a powerful message. We cannot effectively help others if we neglect our own needs.

This is one of the most important lessons I want to share through my life coaching business. Self-care goes beyond occasional pampering or taking a day off. It means recognizing your needs, protecting your peace, setting healthy boundaries, and making your physical, mental, and emotional well-being a priority.

Building my business has also taught me the importance of standing behind what I believe in. I wanted to create a coaching experience that encouraged people to reconnect with themselves, recognize their worth, and understand that their well-being matters. My personal experiences helped shape that vision, and I learned to trust the value of what I had created.

Today, my mission is to encourage others to stop waiting until they are exhausted, overwhelmed, or facing a life-changing situation before they begin taking care of themselves. You deserve care and attention now, not only when you have nothing left to give.

My breast cancer journey changed my perspective on life, purpose, and what it truly means to care for yourself. It reminded me that even through difficult seasons, we can discover new directions and find meaningful ways to serve others.

My message is simple: Put your oxygen mask on first. Take care of yourself, honor your needs, and permit yourself to matter, too. Self-care is not a luxury, and putting yourself first isn't always selfish—it is necessary.

And sometimes, learning to care for yourself is the first step toward changing your life and helping others change theirs.
