Have Integrity In Whatever You Do

In the last few weeks, I have found myself in different scenarios professionally and as a consumer. It has shocked me that not everyone takes pride in their profession unless it results in a benefit to them. Over my various jobs in retail and office administration, I always put my best foot forward without acknowledgement because it's just about doing the job. This is something I feel is missing in the workforce as some people only do the bare minimal and asking for anymore than that is a bother. I currently sell homemade holistic crafts on Etsy and no matter how small the order, I add free gifts (when I can) as it aligns with the buyer. Why you ask? Because I want to provide the customer the opportunity to try other items I have (good business practice), potentially make them a repeat buyer, but most importantly it's to provide a wholesome experience through good customer service. I put forth the same effort in my daytime profession, if there is a problem, and I can assist in the resolution, I'm going to do it. Even in moments where I could feel annoyed, and not want to, I still persevere to do what is necessary. There are moments when I've heard people say, "that's not my job", "that's their problem", or "why bother" but then complain that they aren't getting paid enough or a issue that continues unresolved. If only they took the time to be assertive, and assist by being an active listener, that person could leave feeling understood and heard. It's a very simple context of treat others the way you want to be treated or as my mother would say, "Common Courtesy" (the two C's). It doesn't cost you anything to be kind and the person on the other end will never forget you for it. I've talked down an irate customers on the phone within ten minutes. Their voice changed, and they even apologized due to my tone staying as calm as possible while reassuring them I understood their frustration. Because I placed myself in their shoes and how I would want someone to talk to me. Of course, I may turn on the mute button and let out a few sighs (lol) but if they left the call with more clarity, then I did MY JOB! The one that I applied for and accepted the responsibilities that came with it. Is it only feasible to go above and beyond when it's something you love? I think it's more honorable when you do it genuinely because that is your character...Have Integrity In Whatever You Do!
