Helping People See Possibilities They May Not Know Exist

When I returned to college after a 24-year educational hiatus, I wasn’t trying to become extraordinary. I was simply trying to create a better life for my family.

Like many adult learners, I questioned whether I belonged in a classroom again. I worried that I was too old, too far behind, or that I had missed my opportunity. What I discovered instead was that education doesn’t simply provide knowledge—it changes the way we see ourselves and what we believe is possible.

My journey eventually led me from community college to earning a bachelor’s degree, a Master of Public Policy from the University of California, Riverside, and now pursuing a Doctor of Public Administration. Along the way, I realized that my greatest purpose wasn’t collecting degrees—it was helping others recognize that their own goals may be closer than they think.

Throughout my work in public service, education, and community engagement, I have seen a common thread: people often underestimate what they can achieve. Sometimes they don’t need someone to solve every problem; they simply need someone to believe in them long enough for them to begin believing in themselves.

Whether I am working with students, colleagues, or members of my community, I strive to remind people that their circumstances do not define their future. Education, resilience, faith, and perseverance have the power to change not only individual lives but entire families and communities.

Success is rarely the result of one defining moment. It is built through thousands of small decisions to keep learning, keep growing, and keep moving forward despite uncertainty.

If there is one message I hope people take away from my journey, it is this:

Helping people see possibilities they may not know exist may be one of the greatest gifts we can offer one another.

Look at what becomes possible when faith, persistence, education, and hope work together over time.

To God be the glory.
