How do you define leadership

True leadership is measured by the positive impact you have on others, not by the title you hold.

How do you define leadership

Leadership is often associated with titles, positions, and authority, but I believe true leadership goes much deeper than that. Leadership is the ability to positively influence, inspire, and serve others while working toward a common purpose. It is not defined by the number of people who report to you but by the impact you have on the lives of those around you.

Leadership Begins with Integrity

For me, leadership begins with integrity. A leader must be trustworthy, accountable, and willing to do the right thing even when no one is watching. People are more likely to follow someone whose actions consistently align with their values. Leadership is built on trust, and trust is earned through honesty, consistency, and respect.

Leadership Requires Compassion

Leadership also requires compassion. Throughout my healthcare career, I have learned that people may not always remember what you said, but they will remember how you made them feel. Effective leaders take the time to listen, understand, and support others. They recognize the strengths of those around them and create opportunities for growth and development.

Leadership Is Service

Another important aspect of leadership is service. I believe leadership is not about being served but about serving others. Great leaders empower people to reach their full potential, provide guidance during challenges, and celebrate their team's successes. They create environments where individuals feel valued, respected, and encouraged to succeed.

Leadership Involves Continuous Growth

Leadership also involves continuous growth. The best leaders are lifelong learners who remain open to new ideas, seek feedback, and adapt to change. They understand that leadership is a journey of continual improvement rather than a destination.

Influence Through Service

My faith, personal experiences, and professional journey have taught me that leadership is ultimately about influence through service. It is about making a positive difference, helping others grow, and leaving people better than you found them.

Whether in the workplace, the community, or at home, true leadership is measured not by power or position but by the impact we have on the lives of others.
