Her Interview
Ten minutes with Porcia
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a combination of consistent effort, curiosity, and a willingness to learn from mistakes. I’ve focused on continuous improvement, building strong relationships, and following through on commitments even when challenges arise.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received from a supervisor was to never focus solely on the task in front of me—focus on the impact I’m making on people. In healthcare, it’s easy to get caught up in processes and deadlines, but my supervisor reminded me that every patient interaction is an opportunity to make someone feel cared for, valued, and heard. That advice changed my perspective. It taught me that true success isn’t just about what I accomplish; it’s about how I serve others, support my team, and leave a positive impact wherever I am. That’s a lesson I’ve carried throughout my current career path and into my leadership journey.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the healthcare industry is to believe in your abilities, never stop learning, and don’t be afraid to use your voice. Healthcare can be challenging, but it is also one of the most rewarding fields because you have the opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives every day. Seek mentors, ask questions, embrace growth opportunities, and remember that your unique perspective has value. Most importantly, lead with compassion, integrity, and confidence. You don’t have to have all the answers to be a great leader—you just need the willingness to learn, serve, and keep moving forward.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in healthcare right now is balancing quality patient care with increasing demands, staffing challenges, and rapidly changing technology. Patients expect timely, compassionate care, and healthcare organizations are working hard to meet those expectations while adapting to new systems and processes.
At the same time, I see tremendous opportunities. Technology, innovation, and a greater focus on the patient experience are transforming the way we deliver care. There is also a growing need for strong leaders who can support teams, improve processes, and create positive experiences for both patients and employees.
I believe the future belongs to healthcare professionals who are adaptable, committed to continuous learning, and focused on serving others with excellence and compassion.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are faith, integrity, compassion, service, and continuous growth. My faith provides the foundation for how I approach life and the way I treat others. Integrity is important because I believe in doing the right thing even when no one is watching. Compassion allows me to connect with people and serve them with empathy, especially in healthcare. I am also passionate about service and helping others reach their full potential. Finally, I value continuous growth because I believe there is always an opportunity to learn, improve, and become a better leader, professional, and person.
These values guide my decisions, shape my relationships, and influence how I lead and serve both in my career and in my community.
