Discover the artistic vision and creative journey of Jane Gottlieb, a featured artist at ItsLiquid.
Jane Gottlieb was born and lives in California. She studied painting and art history at the University of Berkeley and Florence, and then graduated from UCLA and went to the School of Visual Arts in New York for one more year. Throughout her career, she has worked as an art director, designer, and photographer in the fields of film, theatre, and advertising, always combining an intense artistic activity.
Her works have been exhibited in numerous museums, galleries, and institutions in the United States and Europe, in solo and group exhibitions. She has been featured in articles in international magazines such as Fine Art Magazine, American Photo Magazine, Elle, and Corriere della Sera. Among the countless awards she has received are the “Where Worlds Meet” award (HMVC Gallery, New York) and the London Photography Award, and first place to honorable mention in many online competitions.

For her first solo exhibition in Milan, entitled Pop in Milano, the American artist Jane Gottlieb chooses to collaborate with the art curator and photo-editor Anna Mola, with whom she has worked for years, and with Spazio Raw, a gallery active in the heart of the city. Jane Gottlieb is known internationally – especially in the United States – for her lively, bright, and colorful style, which naturally flows into the pop language from which the title of the exhibition takes inspiration.
With over thirty years of activity behind her, the author has developed a very particular and extremely recognisable genre, just as the technique used is particular and extremely recognisable. I begin with my photographs: initially printed with Cibachrome technology and subsequently hand-painted. Then, with the advent of digital, Jane discovers the immense potential of the new medium, and therefore the images are reworked directly on the computer and then printed in fine art.
In love with colors (and with Italy since the dawn of time), the result materialises in full and bold images, certainly new for the Milanese public. The 18 works on display represent subjects that are divided between abstract, conceptual, symbolic, and other more figurative images, where, in particular, we find glimpses of Italy. What is truly striking about Jane Gottlieb and her artistic production is the incredible stylistic coherence, pursued for decades, without ever bending to the fashions of the moment. It is a coherence that extends to her person, her colorful fashion, her vibrant home, her entire life!, etc.
Jane does not “make” works; she IS her works, and this degree of authenticity exists only in a few artists in the world.
