Jane Gottlieb

Jane Gottlieb is a celebrated fine art photographer and colorist whose vivid, dreamlike images have redefined the boundaries between photography and painting. For more than three decades, she has transformed her original photographs into vibrant works of art — first by hand-painting her Cibachrome prints and later through digital enhancement and collage. Her work evokes an imaginative, optimistic world of color and form, celebrating architecture, nature, and fantasy with an unmistakable Southern California flair.

Gottlieb’s art has been exhibited globally in solo and group shows at institutions such as the Butler Institute of American Art, Laguna Art Museum, Petersen Automotive Museum, Monterey Museum of Art, and galleries across New York, Rome, Milan, and Lisbon. Her pieces are included in the permanent collections of museums, universities, and corporations worldwide. She has also published several books, including Garden Tales and Car Tales, and her large-scale installations can be seen throughout the UCLA and UCSB campuses, where over 130 of her works brighten public spaces.

A Los Angeles native now based in Santa Barbara, Gottlieb studied art and art history at UC Berkeley and UCLA before beginning her career as an art director in Hollywood. Today, she continues to create, exhibit, and donate her art while serving as a sustaining trustee of the Santa Barbara Museum of Art and supporting local arts programs. Through her work, Jane Gottlieb shares her enduring belief in the transformative power of color and creativity to bring joy and imagination into everyday life.
