Less Hurry More Peace by Dr. Jennifer Moore, Th.D.
Finding freedom and wellness by choosing rest over endless productivity.
Less Hurry, More Peace
Working in mental health has taught me a great deal over the years. But one of the biggest lessons didn't come from a training or a textbook-it came from paying attention to my own life.
Like many women, I wore being busy like a badge of honor. My calendar stayed full, my phone never stopped buzzing, and my mind was always focused on the next thing that needed to get done. I told myself I was being productive, but if I'm honest, I was also exhausted.
The interesting thing about constantly being on the go is that you don't always realize how tired you've become until your mind and body force you to slow down.
That's what happened to me.
Over the past several months, I've been reminded that emotional wellness isn't only about how we handle life's biggest challenges. It's also about the small choices we make every day. Do we give ourselves time to rest? Do we create moments of quiet? Do we believe we have to earn a break, or do we recognize that rest is an essential part of staying healthy?
Those questions have caused me to look at my own habits differently.
I still love helping people. I still enjoy my work. But I've learned that I can't continue pouring into everyone else if my own cup is running empty.
One thing I've noticed is that when I slow down, I become more present. I listen better. I think more clearly. I'm less overwhelmed by the things I can't control and more focused on the things I can.
I've also learned that protecting our peace isn't selfish. It's healthy.
In a world that celebrates being busy, choosing to pause can feel almost uncomfortable. We worry that people will think we're not doing enough. But I've realized that constantly rushing isn't the goal.
Living well is.
That doesn't mean every day is perfect. I still catch myself trying to squeeze one more task into an already full day. The difference now is that I recognize it sooner. I'm learning to give myself permission to breathe, to rest, and to accept that everything doesn't have to happen today.
If there's one thing I hope people take away from this, it's this:
Your mental wellness matters just as much as your productivity.
- The emails will still be there.
- The laundry can wait.
- The to-do list will never be completely finished.
But the way you care for yourself today will affect how you show up tomorrow-for your family, your work, your community, and yourself.
For me, Less Hurry, More Peace isn't just a phrase.
It's a reminder that taking care of our mental and emotional well-being isn't something we squeeze into our schedule after everything else is done.
It deserves a place on the schedule, too.
