Positively Proactive
Embracing the Power of Proactive Leadership: Why Getting Ahead Isn't Overstepping
"You're too proactive."
Several years ago, I received that feedback in my role as an Executive Assistant. At the time, it caught me off guard.
I have always approached my work with intention, staying one step ahead, anticipating challenges, and making sure the people I support could focus fully on their priorities.
To me, that was the job. That is the value.
Being proactive wasn't about control, it was about care. It was about making things smoother, smarter, and less stressful for everyone around me.
That moment stayed with me. And over the years, I've learned that this feedback often comes from a misunderstanding of what high-level Executive Assistants and Chief of Staffs really do.
We are not just task-takers. We are
- Force multipliers
- Strategic partners
- Quiet problem-solvers
- Trusted confidantes
YES, we're proactive. We have to be.
Today, I still carry that label "Positively Proactive" and I wear it with pride.
Because staying ahead isn't just a skill. It's a mindset. One that continues to serve me and the leaders I support, every single day.
