There comes a moment in many women's lives when we realize we've spent years trying to fit into spaces that were never designed for us.
We work harder. We become more qualified. We prove ourselves over and over again, hoping that one more accomplishment will finally earn the acceptance we have been seeking. Yet, despite our credentials, experience, or character, we often discover that belonging cannot be achieved by shrinking ourselves to fit someone else's expectations.
That realization changed my life.
For years, I believed that if I simply worked harder, loved deeper, gave more, and remained faithful, every door would eventually open. Some did. Many did not. And while those closed doors once felt like rejection, I now recognize them as redirection.
This journey is not about victimhood. It is about transformation.
It is about what happens when a woman stops asking for permission to belong and begins embracing the purpose God has uniquely prepared for her.
Leadership Was Never About Titles
Like many women, my earliest lessons about identity did not come from a classroom or a boardroom. They came from my own family.
I grew up in a home where service, hospitality, and community were simply a way of life. Our home welcomed artists, visionaries, and changemakers—including renowned performers such as the Alvin Ailey dancers and Sweet Honey in the Rock. At the time, I did not fully understand what I was witnessing. I simply knew that our doors were always open, conversations were always meaningful, and people were constantly being encouraged and supported.
Looking back, I realize those experiences quietly shaped my understanding of leadership. Leadership was never about titles. It was about creating spaces where others could flourish.
Yet even with those beautiful foundations, I also experienced the pain of not always feeling chosen.
Our Worth Cannot Be Determined by Who Overlooks Us
Those personal experiences eventually taught me one of life's greatest lessons: Our worth cannot be determined by who overlooks us.
Throughout my career—from education to global clinical research, where I have spent nearly two decades leading international clinical trials—I repeatedly found myself entering rooms where I had to establish credibility before my voice was truly heard. Those experiences refined my resilience, sharpened my leadership, and strengthened my faith.
Instead of allowing disappointment to define me, I allowed it to develop me.
Eventually, I realized something profound.
Perhaps I wasn't meant to spend my life fighting for a seat at someone else's table.
Perhaps I was being prepared to build a larger one.
The G.L.O.W. Syndicate
That revelation became the catalyst for founding The G.L.O.W. Syndicate, a global ecosystem created to help women become visible, connected, equipped, and positioned to thrive. It is a community where accomplished women across industries collaborate instead of compete, where relationships become opportunities, and where purpose is transformed into measurable impact.
The organization was never born from ambition alone. It was born from empathy.
I understood what it felt like to possess tremendous potential while searching for meaningful access. I understood the isolation that often accompanies leadership. Most importantly, I understood that success becomes far more significant when we create pathways for others to succeed alongside us.
Today, every initiative we launch is rooted in a simple belief: When one woman rises with intention, she creates opportunities for countless others.
That philosophy extends beyond business.
It influences how we mentor emerging entrepreneurs, support established executives, elevate underrepresented voices, create strategic partnerships, and invest in communities both locally and globally. Whether through education, media, leadership development, healthcare advocacy, or international collaborations, our mission remains the same—to help women walk confidently into the spaces where they belong and courageously build the ones that do not yet exist.
Success Requires Honesty
One of the greatest misconceptions about success is that it requires perfection.
It does not.
Success requires honesty.
It requires healing.
It requires the willingness to stop defining yourself by rejection and begin defining yourself by purpose.
Spaces Not Built for Me
The phrase Spaces Not Built for Me represents far more than my own journey.
- It belongs to every woman who has questioned whether she was enough.
- Every woman who has carried responsibilities no one else could see.
- Every woman who has quietly persevered while building a life rooted in integrity, faith, and hope.
The truth is, some spaces were never intended to contain your calling.
Their limitations were not evidence of your inadequacy—they were evidence that your assignment was larger than the room.
Sometimes God allows us to experience closed doors so that we will stop settling for temporary acceptance and begin building lasting impact.
My prayer is that every reader walks away with this understanding:
- You do not need permission to become the woman God created you to be.
- You do not need validation to pursue your purpose.
- And you certainly do not need to diminish your brilliance to make others comfortable.
Some spaces were never built for you.
Perhaps that is because you were always meant to build something extraordinary for others.
That is where influence begins.
That is where legacy is created.
And that is where women truly GLOW.
