Stephanie Cummings Carr: A Trailblazing Black Woman Making AI Approachable for All
How a Tech Executive is Democratizing AI for Organizations and Professionals Across Every Industry
Stephanie Cummings Carr is not just a technology executive—she is a trailblazer. As a Black woman who has built a stellar career at global heavyweights like Oracle, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Google, she has spent more than two decades at the intersection of innovation, leadership, and transformation. Today, she stands as Founder & CEO of Stephanie Marthine Consulting, a consultancy she launched to make artificial intelligence (AI) accessible, understandable, and empowering for professionals and organizations across higher education, healthcare, and multigenerational workforces.
“Technology evolves rapidly—but people should never get left behind,” Carr says. “My passion is helping people see AI as a partner in progress, not something to fear.”
Building a Consultancy Grounded in Purpose, Empathy & Inclusion
What sets Stephanie Marthine Consulting apart is its foundation of empathy and empowerment. In a crowded field of AI consultancies, the firm stakes its claim by focusing on early-adoption education, especially for industries and audiences often left behind in technology’s march. Carr recognized that many mid-career professionals, educators, healthcare leaders, and baby boomers were eager for AI but unsure where to begin. She decided to meet them there—with clarity, context, and compassion.
“Early adoption is key,” she explains, “because the earlier you learn what AI can truly do, the more confident and creative you become. It’s not about tech for its own sake—it’s about people, purpose, and possibility.”
Stephanie’s approach is refreshingly human: she speaks plain language, listens deeply, and helps clients unpack what AI tools mean for their unique challenges.
She says: “No one platform holds all the answers. Having worked inside multiple global tech companies, I now sit outside them—and I can guide clients toward the tools that fit their needs, not the tools that sell the hardest.”
A Journey of Breakthroughs: From Oracle to Google and Beyond
Stephanie’s career reads like a roadmap through the evolution of modern tech. She began in IT operations and programming, realizing it wasn’t quite her jam. What she loved instead was connecting with people—so she pivoted into software sales. Her first major break came in a male-dominated sales environment where she was initially the support person, taking notes and scheduling conferences. She learned by sitting in every meeting, absorbing the craft of negotiation, building relationships—and then she stepped into her first full bag-sales role at IBM.
At Oracle, she spent ten formative years selling databases, data-integration tools, middleware and software—building confidence, expertise, and strategic vantage. Then came AWS, and later Google—each stop layering additional dimension on her tech-and-business acumen. On her LinkedIn profile she notes over 20 years driving growth and innovation across public sector, higher education, and commercial markets.
She has been invited to high-profile leadership gatherings such as the Black Enterprise Women of Power Summit in Phoenix, and has presented Google’s AI innovations in London to members of The Links, Incorporated. These experiences testify to her stature and influence.
Mentorship, Representation & Impact
Beyond boardrooms and big tech deals, Stephanie’s heart lies in mentorship and giving back. She serves on the Advisory Board for the University of Maryland’s Smith School of Business Master’s in Management Program. She also sits on the Board of ScholarCHIPS, Inc., a nonprofit in Washington, D.C., whose mission is to provide college scholarships, mentoring, mental-health support, and a peer-support network for young adults whose parents are incarcerated.
“My passion is mentoring young people and helping them believe they belong in rooms where innovation happens,” she says. “Representation matters—and so does preparation.”
At a recent interview she emphasized the reality: there are more than 700,000 unfilled cybersecurity and AI-related positions in the U.S. alone—and many companies now accept certifications rather than just degrees. She uses these facts to challenge emerging professionals and industry leaders alike: You can step into this world right now, and you don’t have to wait for “perfect credentials.”
The Vision: AI with Heart, Insight & Humanity
Stephanie’s long-term vision is clear: she sees her brand not just as another consultancy, but as a trusted voice for organizations seeking to navigate AI with integrity. She wants her firm to be the bridge between innovation and understanding, helping boards, leadership teams and professionals of all backgrounds to see AI as an enabler of creativity, connection, and growth.
“In a few years, I see my company known for empowering organizations to be confident—not confused—about AI,” she explains. “Technology should enhance creativity, compassion and purpose—not replace them.”
The message she delivers to conference halls, classrooms and executive board rooms is urgent yet hopeful: You don’t have to be a tech expert to thrive in the age of AI. You just have to be willing to learn, adapt and believe.
