Purpose Is Discovered One Faithful Step at a Time
There was a time when I believed purpose was something I had to find. I thought it was hidden somewhere beyond my current circumstances, waiting for the right opportunity, the right qualification, or the right job title. Like many people, I measured progress by promotions, achievements, and the next milestone.
Looking back, I now realize I was searching for something that had been quietly unfolding all along. Purpose was never lost. I simply hadn't learned how to recognize it.
My Career Began in a Classroom
My career began in a classroom as an elementary school teacher in Uganda. Every day, I poured myself into helping young children learn and grow. I loved teaching, yet I couldn't shake the feeling that God was preparing me for something different. It wasn't dissatisfaction—it was an invitation to grow beyond what I knew.
Answering that invitation was not easy. I left the familiar and pursued a degree in Business Administration, later building a career in global nonprofit finance.
At first glance, teaching and finance seem worlds apart. One shapes minds; the other manages numbers. But over time, I discovered they shared something far more important.
They are both about serving people.
Budgets are never just numbers on a spreadsheet. Behind every figure is a child receiving an education, a family finding hope, a community being strengthened, or a ministry reaching people who might otherwise be forgotten.
That realization transformed the way I viewed my work.
After more than a decade of serving ministries across East Africa, another unexpected door opened. I moved to the United States to pursue a Master of Nonprofit Administration and Management at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana.
It was a season filled with uncertainty, sacrifice, and learning. Leaving behind my family and a successful career to become a student again required faith, humility, and resilience.
Many people assume purpose always feels clear. My experience has been the opposite. Often, purpose reveals itself only after we take the next faithful step.
We rarely receive the entire roadmap.
We are simply asked to trust enough to keep moving.
Today, I Have the Privilege of Serving
Today, I have the privilege of serving as an Assistant International Controller at Holy Cross Family Ministries International, supporting financial stewardship across ministry centers spanning multiple continents. My work involves financial management, strategic planning, accountability, and strengthening systems that enable mission-driven organizations to thrive.
Yet if you asked me what gives me the greatest satisfaction, it would not be my title.
It is knowing that faithful stewardship allows organizations to serve more people, strengthen families, and create lasting impact.
Every sound financial decision creates opportunities for others to flourish.
That is purpose.
Along this journey, I have learned that success is often misunderstood. Society encourages us to chase recognition, accumulate achievements, and compare ourselves with others. But those pursuits rarely bring lasting fulfillment.
True success is measured by the lives we influence, the trust we earn, and the difference we make long after we leave the room.
Purpose Also Requires Patience
Some of the most meaningful chapters of our lives begin quietly. They grow through ordinary acts of faithfulness that seem insignificant at the time.
Looking back, I can see that every experience—the classroom, the finance office, graduate school, and international leadership—was preparing me for responsibilities I could not have imagined years earlier.
Nothing was wasted.
If there is one message I hope every young professional, leader, or person searching for direction takes from my story, it is this:
Do not spend your life chasing purpose as though it is hiding from you. Instead, pay attention to the gifts God has placed within you, the people you are called to serve, and the opportunities in front of you today. Purpose often reveals itself through faithful service rather than dramatic moments.
Your journey may not look like anyone else's, and it doesn't have to.
The world does not need another copy of someone successful.
It needs people who are willing to live authentically, serve generously, and lead with integrity.
I no longer believe purpose is something we invent.
I believe it is something we discover—one faithful step at a time.
And perhaps that is the greatest freedom of all: realizing that the life you are searching for may already be unfolding, if only you have the courage to recognize it.
Become who awaits, and go where you are called.
