Value the Journey as Much as the Result

There is a reason instant coffee became popular. It is quick, convenient, and predictable. No grinding, no brewing, and no waiting. Add hot water, stir, and within seconds, a finished drink is in your hands. What a quick brew!

"Some things are prepared in seconds, but a meaningful life is never one of them."

Convenience is a gift in modern life, and progress deserves to be celebrated. However, life does not always respond as quickly as instant coffee. Some of its most meaningful outcomes require time, patience, discipline, and quiet growth.

This is not a criticism of any generation or season of life; it is a gentle invitation for all of us to pause and examine how we approach our journey.

"Reflection is not condemnation; it is the courage to look inward before moving forward."

We are living in a time of instant messages, fast deliveries, quick answers, and visible results. Without realizing it, we may begin expecting our education, careers, businesses, relationships, healing, and spiritual lives to move at the same speed.

We may wonder why success is taking so long or why our efforts have not yet been recognized.

"When everything around us moves quickly, patience can feel like failure, but it is often preparation."

Career

A career is built through learning, humility, mistakes, correction, and consistency. A title may be given in one day, but competence develops over time. Recognition may arrive suddenly, but credibility is earned through years of showing up, learning, and serving faithfully.

"The world may applaud the position, but character is what enables a person to remain in it."

Business

The same truth applies to business. Sustainable success is usually built through careful decisions, honest relationships, disciplined stewardship, and the courage to recover from disappointment.

What appears to be an overnight success may carry a hidden history of sacrifice, setbacks, and repeated rebuilding.

Relationships and Marriage

Relationships and marriages also require more than instant attraction. A strong relationship grows through listening, forgiveness, sacrifice, communication, and the daily decision to remain present.

Technology may help people connect quickly, but genuine closeness develops through time, trust, and shared responsibility.

Love may begin in a moment, but commitment is revealed in the moments that follow.

Nothing is microwaved here!

Faith

Even healing has its own rhythm. Some wounds close slowly, and some lessons become clear only after time has given us perspective.

Waiting does not mean that nothing is happening. Roots grow quietly before a tree becomes visible above the ground.

Not every season of silence is empty; sometimes life is strengthening the roots.

Our spiritual lives also cannot be reduced to instant answers. Faith matures through prayer, service, integrity, and perseverance, including seasons when nothing dramatic seems to happen.

One powerful moment may inspire us, but daily discipline is what transforms us.

"Inspiration may awaken faith, but consistency is what gives it a lasting home."

This truth should free us from comparing our beginnings with someone else's visible achievements. The world may notice a person's success in one moment, but it may never see the years of preparation behind it.

We should celebrate others without using their progress as evidence that we are behind. Another person's season of harvest does not mean your season of preparation has no value.

Slow progress is still progress.

Rest is not laziness.

Correction is not failure.

Obscurity is not irrelevance.

Process is not punishment; it is preparation.

The question is not only, "How quickly can I get there?" but also, "Who am I becoming along the way?"

Arrival may impress people, but becoming determines what we can sustain.

Instant coffee may satisfy the moment, but a meaningful life is patiently brewed through courage, responsibility, learning, faith, and love.

The things that take time often become the things that last because they do more than reward us; they shape us.

They shape us before they finally reward us.

Purpose Is Discovered One Faithful Step at a Time

There was a time when I believed purpose was something I had to find. I thought it was hidden somewhere beyond my current circumstances, waiting for the right opportunity, the right qualification, or the right job title. Like many people, I measured progress by promotions, achievements, and the next milestone.

Looking back, I now realize I was searching for something that had been quietly unfolding all along. Purpose was never lost. I simply hadn't learned how to recognize it.

My Career Began in a Classroom

My career began in a classroom as an elementary school teacher in Uganda. Every day, I poured myself into helping young children learn and grow. I loved teaching, yet I couldn't shake the feeling that God was preparing me for something different. It wasn't dissatisfaction—it was an invitation to grow beyond what I knew.

Answering that invitation was not easy. I left the familiar and pursued a degree in Business Administration, later building a career in global nonprofit finance.

At first glance, teaching and finance seem worlds apart. One shapes minds; the other manages numbers. But over time, I discovered they shared something far more important.

They are both about serving people.

Budgets are never just numbers on a spreadsheet. Behind every figure is a child receiving an education, a family finding hope, a community being strengthened, or a ministry reaching people who might otherwise be forgotten.

That realization transformed the way I viewed my work.

After more than a decade of serving ministries across East Africa, another unexpected door opened. I moved to the United States to pursue a Master of Nonprofit Administration and Management at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana.

It was a season filled with uncertainty, sacrifice, and learning. Leaving behind my family and a successful career to become a student again required faith, humility, and resilience.

Many people assume purpose always feels clear. My experience has been the opposite. Often, purpose reveals itself only after we take the next faithful step.

We rarely receive the entire roadmap.

We are simply asked to trust enough to keep moving.

Today, I Have the Privilege of Serving

Today, I have the privilege of serving as an Assistant International Controller at Holy Cross Family Ministries International, supporting financial stewardship across ministry centers spanning multiple continents. My work involves financial management, strategic planning, accountability, and strengthening systems that enable mission-driven organizations to thrive.

Yet if you asked me what gives me the greatest satisfaction, it would not be my title.

It is knowing that faithful stewardship allows organizations to serve more people, strengthen families, and create lasting impact.

Every sound financial decision creates opportunities for others to flourish.

That is purpose.

Along this journey, I have learned that success is often misunderstood. Society encourages us to chase recognition, accumulate achievements, and compare ourselves with others. But those pursuits rarely bring lasting fulfillment.

True success is measured by the lives we influence, the trust we earn, and the difference we make long after we leave the room.

Purpose Also Requires Patience

Some of the most meaningful chapters of our lives begin quietly. They grow through ordinary acts of faithfulness that seem insignificant at the time.

Looking back, I can see that every experience—the classroom, the finance office, graduate school, and international leadership—was preparing me for responsibilities I could not have imagined years earlier.

Nothing was wasted.

If there is one message I hope every young professional, leader, or person searching for direction takes from my story, it is this:

Do not spend your life chasing purpose as though it is hiding from you. Instead, pay attention to the gifts God has placed within you, the people you are called to serve, and the opportunities in front of you today. Purpose often reveals itself through faithful service rather than dramatic moments.

Your journey may not look like anyone else's, and it doesn't have to.

The world does not need another copy of someone successful.

It needs people who are willing to live authentically, serve generously, and lead with integrity.

I no longer believe purpose is something we invent.

I believe it is something we discover—one faithful step at a time.

And perhaps that is the greatest freedom of all: realizing that the life you are searching for may already be unfolding, if only you have the courage to recognize it.

Become who awaits, and go where you are called.
