The Becoming

Becoming Who You Know Deep Within

Becoming who you know deep within is messy. You have to watch everything around you crumble before your eyes. Grief is a painful feeling that can seem like it never goes away. But grieving is even harder, and you can’t look back, or you will fall. At that point, real questions arrive—questions you never even thought about:

  • Who am I?
  • How did I get here?
  • What can I do to make it better?
  • Do I trust myself?

At that point, the pivot of no return consumes you. It takes a lot of faith, tears, lonely nights, early mornings, and lessons from what you thought were losses. These moments test your strength.

This is where your strength comes in. Beg for strength. Beg not to give up. Prepare to be cast out because you are no longer aligned with what and where you were comfortable. So don’t give up in your darkest hour while crying, while looking and feeling like a mess. Show up. Be okay with being different. Prepare to feel unseen, unheard, and misunderstood because those people, places, and things have fallen away.

Now it is just you and your shadow. Are you going to face your shadow head-on, or let the shadow win? Keep in mind the inner child in you is caged by your own body and mind, screaming to be free. So you have a choice. Make wise choices. Fight with yourself not to give up, all while you are looking like a mess, feeling like a mess, and unlearning new ways of life while releasing old habits—mentally, emotionally, and physically.

Creating a new pathway is scary. Trust the unknown. Wake up on time. Go to sleep on time. Try new eating habits. Pray. Work out. Drink a lot of water. And pour into yourself and your child or children.

But pause if you need to. Always remember it’s okay not to be okay. But in the becoming, it gets messy—it will be. Still, keep faith and courage, and always remember: God loves you.

Love, Jasmine

Becoming is messy, but overcome fear with faith.
