The Hardest Part of Being a Small Business Owner with a Big Heart
Finding Strength and Compassion When Others Try to Tear You Down
One of the hardest parts of being a small business owner with a big heart is realizing that not everyone wants to see you succeed. There are always those who try to cast you as the “bad guy” or go out of their way to hurt you.
Yes, a few step in to help—and often, the most meaningful support comes from strangers who surprise you with their kindness. But when someone chooses to slander or damage a small business, the impact goes deeper than most realize. It affects our reputation, our finances, our ability to pay bills, and even the simple joys of time spent with our children.
Johnny and I have faced countless moments of unfair treatment or false accusations. Yet through it all, we hold onto our faith. We teach our children that no matter how hard life gets, it costs nothing to be kind and to help others. That lesson—$0 to be kind—is one of the most powerful truths we carry.
Sometimes, the hardest part of owning a small business is holding onto compassion in the face of adversity. But that’s also what makes us stronger. Women who lead with heart, refusing to let bitterness win, show the world that resilience and kindness can coexist.
To every woman walking this path—whether you’re running a business, raising a family, or both—remember this: your strength isn’t measured by the obstacles thrown at you, but by the grace with which you rise above them.
