The Power of Mentorship: Growing Together Through Connection and Support
How Mentoring Women in Dentistry Transformed My Leadership and Life
Mentorship has been one of the most rewarding parts of my professional journey. While many people view mentorship as an opportunity to guide someone else, I have found that the experience is equally transformative for the mentor.
Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of both being mentored and mentoring women across the dental industry. These relationships have allowed me to support others as they navigate career decisions, pursue leadership opportunities, overcome challenges, and work toward ambitious goals. What continues to inspire me is that mentorship is never a one-way exchange. Every conversation stretches me to think differently, learn more deeply about new topics, and challenge my own perspectives.
Often, a mentee will bring a question or challenge that encourages me to revisit a subject, research emerging trends, or reflect on my own experiences in a new way. Their curiosity and determination remind me that growth is a lifelong process. As much as I may be sharing knowledge, I am constantly learning alongside them.
One of the greatest benefits of mentorship is the connection it creates. Many of my mentees have become lifelong friends. What may begin as a professional relationship often evolves into a trusted friendship built on mutual respect, encouragement, and shared experiences. These relationships have enriched my life far beyond what I could have imagined when they first began.
The most meaningful reward, however, comes from watching these women achieve their goals. There is something incredibly special about seeing them earn a promotion, step into a leadership role, courageously change jobs, launch a new initiative, or receive recognition for their accomplishments. Celebrating their success feels personal because I witnessed the hard work, resilience, and determination that made those achievements possible. I listened as they worked through doubts, discovered new strengths, and found the confidence to believe in themselves and their ability to become more.
Mentorship has also reinforced an important lesson for me: when women support other women, incredible things happen. We create opportunities, share knowledge, build confidence, and help one another reach heights that might otherwise feel unattainable. Success becomes less about individual achievement and more about lifting others as we climb.
The quote featured in my Women in DSO spotlight captures this sentiment perfectly:
"Mentorship challenged me to lead with intention and reminded me how powerful it is to support women who are building meaningful careers."
I believe every professional has something valuable to offer through mentorship, regardless of title or years of experience. The willingness to share experiences and invest in another person's growth can have a lasting impact—not only on their career, but on your own.
Mentorship has challenged me, stretched me, and helped me grow as a leader. Most importantly, it has given me the opportunity to witness the success of remarkable women who continue to make a difference in our industry.
For that, I am incredibly grateful.

Most importantly, it has given me the privilege of witnessing remarkable women step into their potential and make a meaningful difference in our industry. Their successes continue to inspire me and reaffirm that investing in others is one of the most impactful forms of leadership.
