The Power of Words!

From Trauma to Triumph: How the Power of Words Became My Greatest Healing Force

I always had Compassion for others despite all the Trauma I've endured throughout " My Life!". I started writing Poetry in December of "1998". At the age of 14, I was taking care of my Uncle that was fighting Leukemia. Unfortunately, he lost the battle and passed away soon after! As my Heart was filled with such Sadness, the Confusion consumed my Mind and made me feel Lost. I became so overwhelmed and collided with the traumatizing nightmares of a non-existent childhood. I felt Empty and Alone deep within the core of my Soul. There really wasn't anyone by my side that I could have turned to for Support and comfort, leaving me feeling Isolated to face my crushing Grief! My first poem I wrote was of Loss, grief and sadness. It turned out to be a "Coping Mechanism" that became the best Therapy for my Heart, Mind and Soul. I poured all my Emotions, Thoughts and Feelings onto that blank piece of paper. My Soul felt such a Release and was comforted by the Power of Pen and Paper!

I'm proud of all the goals that I set out for myself that I have achieved along with the ones that came as a blessing in disguise! I graduated from high school in 2005 after having my daughter in 2004. I enrolled into Remington College and got my Diploma as a Pharmaceutical Technician in 2006. In the same year I got my certificate as a Certified Home Health Aide(CHHA). So I was working part time as a Pharmacy Technician and part-time home health aide. In January of 2012, I enrolled into Bryant & Stratton college. I got my Associate Degree as a Medical Administration Assistant(MAA) on August 18th 2014. I am the first person in my family to graduate from college twice. In 2015, I took the exam to become a Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist(CMRS) and I passed it. I became part of American Medical Billing Association(AMBA).

I was very excited because I studied so hard and it paid off! On January 19th 2016, I was hit by a car while walking as a pedestrian in the crosswalk. The driver drove off and just left me for dead in the middle of the road. Thank God there was people that came to make sure I was okay and stayed there until help got there. After that accident all the hard work and dedication I put into my education for a better life for me and my family, was just gone! In the quick of an instance, I couldn't really work physically like I used to! I felt so lost, angry and depressed because I was stripped of not being able to see what I was capable of achieving with my education. I can say this that my Education was Knowledge Learned and Experience was gained.

My whole life I have faced Chronic Health issues but I still tried to work physically even after that accident. When I was going through school, worked or dealing with everyday life, writing poems was always my therapy. In 2019, I became unable to physically work, lost my mother and my twin brother was fighting for his life after he got shot. Over the years my poetry got deeper, became filled with more emotions and many feelings. So when I couldn't work anymore, I started to also write non-fiction novels about my life. Art became another outlet for me as a form of therapy for my mind.

In the end of the year of 2020, I got a call from Xlibris publishing company. I got offered a book deal to write a manuscript and send it in to them for publishing. I got done with it on December 25th of 2020. I sent it on December 26th 2020 and it got published January 31st 2021. The excitement of hearing that I published my first book of poetry was an amazing feeling of accomplishment! Within a few months of my book being published, it went worldwide, started being taught in k-12 as educational purposes and I won writer of the Year award through Strathmore's Who's Who among professionals worldwide. Those were my blessings in disguise and I'm grateful for all of them! All my achievements and accomplishments wasn't to only benefit myself but to be a compassionate human being!

Throughout my life I've always wanted to be able to help others as well as help me to be a better version of myself! I've written over 250 poems since I began writing in "1998". The power of Words has helped me Survive and deal with life on life's terms. At 16 I had to get help for my psyche and to deal with life better. As I would sit there in front of the psychiatrist talking to them but got no sense of relief. It's like that even to this day. All the poems I've written has been such an Inspiration of Faith, Encouragement of Hope to me and the Strength to Never Give Up! So as I continue to write not only for myself anymore but for all to read. They say the pen is mightier than the sword. It's a true fact that the power of words is capable to heal oneself!
