The Real Reason So Many Women Feel Disconnected, And How to Find Yourself Again

Reconnecting with yourself: The missing piece many women overlook on their journey back to wholeness.

The Real Reason So Many Women Feel Disconnected, And How to Find Yourself Again

There was a time when I thought I knew exactly what was missing.

I felt disconnected— from myself, from my joy, from the woman I used to be. And like many women, I assumed the answer was simple: I needed to reconnect with my culture.

So I leaned in.

I started cooking the foods I grew up with. I explored traditions. I created spaces where other women could gather and celebrate the beauty of where we come from.

And while that brought me comfort, I realized something deeper.

The disconnect wasn’t from my culture.

It was from me.

Somewhere along the way, I had lost myself in the roles I was carrying.

Mother. Partner. Professional. Caregiver. The one who holds everything together.

I was doing all the things I was supposed to do—showing up for everyone else, keeping things moving, being reliable, being strong.

But I wasn’t showing up for myself.

And that’s a place so many women find themselves in, quietly.

From the outside, life looks full— even successful.

But internally, something feels off.

You feel it in the lack of joy,

in the constant exhaustion,

in the question you don’t always say out loud:

When did I stop being me?

For me, the turning point wasn’t a big moment.

It was a quiet realization.

If I wanted to feel connected again, I had to start choosing myself.

Not in a selfish way—in an honest way.

I had to reconnect with the parts of me that had been sitting on the sidelines: my creativity, my voice, my curiosity, my desire to create—not just manage.

And slowly, things began to shift.

I started making space for simple things.

Cooking—not just to feed my family, but to enjoy the process.

Creating—not because I had to, but because I wanted to.

Having conversations that went deeper than surface level.

Allowing myself to exist outside of what I do for others.

And in doing that, I didn’t just feel more connected.

I felt like myself again.

That’s when I understood something important.

Reconnecting to your culture, your routines, or even your community can be powerful.

But none of it replaces reconnecting with yourself.

Because when you are grounded in who you are, everything else becomes more meaningful.

Your relationships feel fuller.

Your work feels more aligned.

Your life feels like it belongs to you again.

The truth is, many women are not lacking purpose, connection, or opportunity.

They are lacking space.

Space to pause.

Space to reflect.

Space to remember who they are outside of what they give to others.

So if you’ve been feeling disconnected, start there.

Not with doing more—

but with coming back to yourself.

Ask yourself simple questions:

What do I enjoy?

What makes me feel alive?

What have I been putting off that I know I need?

And then take one small step toward that.

Because finding yourself again doesn’t happen all at once.

It happens in small moments.

In quiet choices.

In deciding, over and over again, that you matter too.

And when you do that, everything begins to change.
