MileagePlus, United’s loyalty program, is free to join, and their mobile app is consistently rated as one of the best airline apps in the world. Even more importantly, when you sign up for one of their credit cards—such as the United Explorer Card as a good starting option, or the QUEST Card for even greater value—every purchase earns miles that contribute toward status. Beginning in 2026, the QUEST Card becomes even more advantageous, earning PlusPoints, PQPs, and miles with everyday spending. In many cases, passive spending alone can help travelers reach Silver status by year’s end without even flying.
